Queen Margrethe of Denmark hosted a gala dinner at Christian VII's Palace, Amalienborg in honour of King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were present at the dinner. King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway are making a 2-day official visit to Denmark.
After the end of the celebratory dinner, King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary boarded the royal yacht The Norge and The Dannebrog and travelled to Aarhus.
MAX MARA Gabriel jacquard gown

The Queens dresses are fantastic! Happy dresses and lots of fabric, colors are amazing! A
ردحذفThe King and Queen are such a charming couple and hope they are together many more years. Queen Sonia is so elegant and look at those gorgeous emeralds! Not a fan of Queen M’s gown as it looks like a bedspread. Mary looks wonderful and the color looks good on her. Usually I don’t care for dropped waists but she makes it work. Her earrings are gorgeous and would love a close up of them.
ردحذفFor her 80th birthday in May 2017, Queen Sonja wore the same gown for the gala dinner.
حذفAlso Princess Mary attended the dinner in 2017 and she wore the same gown that she is wearing on this occasion.
Maybe there are some other re-wares amongst the group.
Bravo ladies for your interest in sustainable fashion.
Wow. That’s a dress with attitude for Queen Margrethe. She reminds me —-in a nice way—- of the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland. Queen Sonja’s dress is less spectacular and I’m disappointed by the insipid colour of CP Mary’s dress. It would be lovely in a stronger colour. Sorry not to see Princess Benedikte at this event
ردحذفAnnieM
Me too. Maybe she was there but photos haven't come through yet (I hope).
حذفI like Margrethe´s look the best. Fresh and attractive, very summery and perfect for the sash.
ردحذفSonja in acid green is not so good, also I really don´t like the dropped waist.
I dislike Mary´s dress for the same reasons (bad colour + dropped waist), but I have to give her that she looks heaps better than the model and managed to turn this shapeless sack into something rather polished. The fabric belt was a good call. Also, adding like 8cm in length brought down the hemline to floor length in the front and turned the already longer hem in the back into a tiny train. Very successful alteration. It takes some vision to see potential in a dress, and the fabric is indeed very nice. But overall, I still dislike the colour and the dropped waist.
I agree with your comment on all dresses.
حذفHoly moly, those emeralds are breathtaking! Maibe
ردحذفBoth queens looks fabulous! QM is wearing my favorite diamond pearl tiara--the Pearl Poiret--and I do like her dress. Red and white is perfect for the Queen of Denmark--and perfect for her. QS is dripping in gorgeous emeralds in one of her favorite gowns. Love, love, love how Mary has restyled her gown. I never liked the neckline on the original gown as I felt it made the gown look too heavy. While I will never be a fan of the color I think the alteration really helped the dress overall and Mary looks fabulous! The King and Frederik look so handsome in their white tie attire.

Wow, Queen Margarethe's gown is rather stunning with its brilliant bold red + white patterning. Good on her for not being afraid to stand out + to show that colour belongs to everyone, not just the youth. Likewise Queen Sonja’s lime green gown, is quite a glowing colour. Whilst I personally would shy away from either colours + I’m not keen on the style of Sonja’s, I must say that they both look wonderful. Crown Princess Mary always has a special spot in my heart as we hail from the same country. It’s hard to imagine a gal from Tasmania, Australia, would end up as a Crown Princess, soon to be Crown Queen of Denmark. Mary has excelled in assimilating to an entirely new country, culture, breaking down language barriers, fully embracing the lifestyles of the Danes. A mammoth achievement to learn its history + the Danish Royal history + its traditions + protocol. It exemplifies how much Crown Prince Frederick + Mary truly do love one another, as he has supported her transition over the years. I love her gown, I like dropped waist designs, a nod of the ‘90s. It’s hard to tell if her gown is a deeper or paler shade of musk, I’m hoping deeper. Nonetheless she looks beautiful. It’s nice to see Q.Margarethe is comfortable using her walking stick + I trust her back is improving. King Harold has done well to manage + manoeuvre about with his crutches. Frederick always looks handsome. Overall, I hope it was an enjoyable banquet that achieved the purpose it set out for. I do enjoy any news regarding Royalty, it must be the whimsical inner child in me … lol
ردحذفIt´s sad to see Harald so frail, I must say. Unfortunately, he actually didn´t manoeuvre so well and fell while approaching to greet the queen earlier that day.
حذفYes, anon 03:41. You have every reason to be proud of your little princess from down under. Please keep your “whimsical inner child” alive and well. It’s good for you.
حذفBut why not get a nickname so that we know when it’s you cheering for Princess Mary.
Must say, that comment could stand an abridged version. BTW, I thought Queen M's gown looked like a bedspread, and Mary's gown was a horrible colour. Queen Sonja looked lovely in her spring coloured gown and jewels.
حذفMen's ties (also hanging neck medals) and women's tiaras, grrr. Why is Sonja's tiara not on straight. She or her tiara-placer should have noticed how off-kilter it is. I love Mary's look, her hairdo is very nice. |Melanie|
ردحذفTop marks to Q. Margrethe…love this dress and happy to see her recovered from the back surgery!! Q. Sonja and CP Mary aren’t wearing their best outfits but all in all, a beautiful event for the whole group.
ردحذفCrown Prince Frederik always ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
ردحذفCrown Prince Frederic ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

ردحذفAgree chère Tulipe33 on the colour of Princess Mary's gown.
حذفA stronger, gayer colour could make a difference.
Don't like the dresses of the older queens. The colors are too loud.
ردحذفI like CP Mary dress. It looks better on her than on the model. Maybe the color is a bit too pale, but she can make it work.
Queen M. is her fabulous ever lasting girl self and thank you for the square neckline. I like the dropped waist, it allows for both: showcase a thin waist without blowing up the hips under it, but at the same time allowing for a full skirt. - I think Mary's dress has a certain shimmer which is less then sparkle but works, together with the fabric structure, better in life than in photos and for this quality, this nude colour is a good background.
ردحذفGM
Not impressed with any of the prom dresses, but to me QM looks the best. CPM dress looks like underwear to me and this is not the best hairstyle for her. QS, who I admire for her daytime attire, always disappoints me in a way when she wears prom attire: the color and volume of her prom dresses are a bit too much for me (especially when compared to her pared-down, but fashion-forward attire during the day).
ردحذفQueen Margrethe, lverwhelming in a beautifull dress, great sense of style!,
ردحذفQueen Sonja, modest in a repeat, not so nice colour, nor model.
Pr. Mary: this is a strange colour, as so far it ís a colour.
Mabel
Wow, what a marvelous dress Queen Margarethe wears !!
ردحذفWow! Queen Margarethe´s dress is magnificent. Shape, fabric and the pink waistband. Those pearls are magnificent. Queen Sonia's dress har a beautiful lime color but is a tiny bit too frilly for my taste. I don't like the skin color on CP Mary's dress. The whole outfit gives a naked vibe.

Could it be that Princess Mary is being polite and going ‘low-key’ with her robe to allow Queen Margrethe and Queen Sonja to be the stars of the evening?
حذف«Could it be that Princess Mary is being polite…» - who comes up with these stupid ideas and remarks? A dropped waist does not look good on anyone! The design and the colour of the dress is so unbecoming on Mary. And her cheap tiara does not even sparkle (they don’t for DKK 80.000).
حذفKudos to the Queens of Denmark and Norway for showing us real jewels and some Royal glamour!
@Anon 22:30
حذفCould you be the same anonymous who recently wrote about the Princess of Wales’s “STUPID” hair?
Now there is an anonymous blogger talking about “STUPID” ideas and remarks.
Smells like the same blogger to me.

حذفThere really exists protocol and also decent manners/customs which should be obeyed. They are followed even in some non-royal circles.(even in republics, there of course without diadems). It doesn't matter if a (foreign?) commoner thinks such thing is stupid. And the protocol and customs vary from one country to another.
About the diadems: QS wears the most important diadem of Norway, QM wears her 2nd diadem as also does CPM. Hosts should always let the guests shine.
Margot
Queen Margareth is really good looking but not her daughter-in-law. Boooring dress.

You know, I wish there was a subsection with NewMyRoyals (good morning Helen) concentrating on the table decoration/s, floral arrangements, dinner services, cutlery, glass ware, general settings and atmosphere of a gala dinner.
ردحذفEach royal house has its style, customs and riches that they bring out for these occasions. Would be nice to feast our eyes on them from time to time.
Deadeggs, you are right! Never thought about that, it will be great to learn more about those dinners, i would to learn about the protocol and when all this fanfare started.
حذفLuna
You and me both! A royal table settings blog would have my instant attention. It seems like jewels for the table to me and I’m there for all of it. Anya
حذفThose kind of things also fascinate me the most - especially the china settings from past decades of history, and the menu details and wine selections particular to the occasion being celebrated. I always search for those details but most often can't find them. The UK and the USA put special thought behind these kind of selections at their state dinners and quite freely publish the details and photos of the settings, decor and dishes/plates of food, but few other countries or monarchies do.
حذف- Anon 9:13
Deadeggs, you're not alone, I am also intrigued by the settings etc.... and all that entails.
حذفMy longing is to see the flower arrangements, the china and glassware.
حذفAnd why not, the menu.
Damn, I can't see and measure Mary's heels but her gown looks terrific!
ردحذفDainty hairstyle and make-up.
Now, this is QM at her best yet again. The colours are those of the Danish flag (plus, there might be a hint of pink in it as well). I am, however, a little disappointed by CPss Mary this time. The colour of the dress is quite expressionless, and - although I love the tiara and the other jewels that go with it - seeing her the second time in a row in her Edwardian Spinell Tiara is a bit boring. Also the drastically dropped waist doesn't seem to work here. I've never been overly fond of that lime green gown of QS, but her Emerald Parure is of course stunning. Too bad we don't see Pss Marie and Prince Joachim and Pss Benedikte on this occasion. The family has downscaled tremendously.
ردحذفForgot to add that Mary's neckline has been altered from a round form going quite high up to the significantly deeper v-neck now. She does these sorts of alterations a lot to make her re-wears look differently.
حذفIt’s always great to see Q. Sonya’s spectacular emeralds although I think they fight with this exuberant, lacy, and vibrant dress. Q. M’s dress is a wonderful shape for her and she wears it with such elegance and grace. I like her tiara but the rest of the jewels look somewhat random - large pearl choker necklace, dangling gem and pearl earrings, and a thinner chain necklace? I really want to like CPMary’s dress but the colour is just too close to her skin tone to be flattering. She has many choices that are better than this. (V.M.)
ردحذفHave just seen on another royal site the menu for the dinner given by Queen Margrethe for the King and Queen of Norway.
ردحذفIt shows three courses.
1: Lobster in wine jelly.
2: Fawn (a young deer in its first year) with new season’s vegetables from the palace garden.
3: A summer cake with Danish strawberries.
No mention of wines.
Sounds delicious.
حذفDoes that site give any menu details of the Amman wedding of CP Hussein? I wanted to know what was served there, but couldn't find anything online at the time.
- Anon 9:13
حذفSounds very appetizing. Thank you for sharing.
حذف@Anon 9:13
حذفI found the information about the Danish menu whilst surfing around on royal sites.
Have never seen anything about the menu for the recent Jordanien wedding.......... pity.
The menu for the Danish gala dinner seems very modest to me.
Fifty years ago or more, the menus for these occasions would probably feature at least 10 courses.
Thanks to @Tulipe33 for her recommendations for the wines (all French, of course).
Mary always colors the lips outside the lines. It doesn't look good up close. Wonder how it must look to the people talking to her.
ردحذفSonjas dress is a bespoken Peter Dundas. It was made for her for their 80 year birthday celebration. I see bad comments about the colour. Got a good laugh no one said anything bad when Queen Elizabeth used screaming colour's.
ردحذفOnly that QE II never used to wear bold colours for state banquets. Her evening attire always was kept in calm colours, mainly white in the last two decades or so of her reign.
حذف@Anon 19:18. Thanks for the information on Peter Dundas.
حذفHe’s a youngish (54 years old) designer who was born in Norway. Again a rags to riches story. As a young kid he remodeled clothes that he’d found in charity shops.
Progressed on to work and train with top French fashion names. Now he is working for international clients which include Sonja, the Queen of Norway.

حذفYes, those had been either private dinners or similar events. I'd been talking of state banquets, very official white tie occasions. And no need to laugh in my face, anon 17:10. Play it nicely, please.
حذفSeriously DSC the first 2 photos shared are from state banquets. Take a rest.
حذفEveryone looked fantastic, And I mean everyone. css
ردحذفWow. I love CPM’s whole look. My favourite. Like the colour, it’s soft and flattering, hair is elegant and feminine to match the colour of the dress and makeup is classic.
