I can’t believe it, literally no criticism to give. They all look looked lovely. The colours were spot on. Maxima flag dressing and honouring Rotterdam. Amalia looks a lot happier here, love the suit and Ariane is really blossoming. The only person who lets the side down is Laurentien and her nasty pattern suit. Km

    1. Most of these photo's are not very flattering. I decided to watch it all on TV today for fun. Amalia and Ariadne looked really gorgeous and so did Marilene. Amalia's suit was very well cut and tailored and she looked most elegant and she sported a fun green clutch for Rotterdam. My only quible, her hair needs a good cut, perhaps something like her sisters so she is not hiding behand that curtain of hair all the time. Ariadne looked perfection with all the bits of royal blue in her accesories. Maxima! very elegant from the waist up but the skirt was a disaster. The silly uneven hem looked ugly when she walked and somethng was not right at the waist since the videos of them on the water taxi saw her trying to pull it all under control and she was often adjusting it along the way. (methinks a Natan, if not I stand corrected)
I never like her 1950's hats so there no comment. I think her makeup and hair looked nice today.

  2. Même si j'ai beau essayer de donner un avis favorable à la tenue de toutes ces dames, c'est quand même la princesse Laurentien qui le mérite pour son élégant tailleur/pantalon même si le bât blesse au niveau de ses grosses chaussures !

I'm not entirely sure whether I like it all together, but there's a lot of things that I do indeed love! Starting with Maxima, the green is fresh, fun and suits her surprisingly well. I'm a sucker for these headband-type of hats and she wears them so nicely. I wish she'd ditched the weird white blanket thing from the beginning and opted for different shoes. The shape of them is just odd and not particularly flattering. I also still hate the gloves, but I guess that's her idea of a formal outfit. Overall, I quite like it!

Amalia also looks smashing. I'm glad she's opting for more solid colours these days, they suit her so much better than the florals and pastels she's donned recently. I'm not fully convinced of Ariane's outfit. It reminds me very much of a graduation or confirmation look. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but doesn't quite match her sister's and mother's quirky vibe.

But in general I love how happy everybody looks - that's the best asset!

The hat not too bad, the top of the dress nice, the bottom of the dress and shoes are terrible, looks like she could fly away with that skirt and so much fabric. The girls are dressed to 'be seen', not a good look for either of them.

Best dressed by far: the youngest Oranje daughter: very stylish suit, worn closed, well done, and with good coloured accessories.
Second best HKH Princess Amalia: nice coloured suit, and she looks pleasantly relaxed, how wonderful for her!
    Q. Maxima: good colour, but strange unflattering skirt and unnecessary “ headthing”.

The atmosphere was great, and that is what counts on such a day,

I have to say, all the ladies are decked out beautifully here. I like that they pretty much all wore solid colour block - it is very unifying as a group.
Yes, there could be some minor criticisms, such as Maxima's overly flared skirt flaps, or Laurentien's unbuttoned and therefore shapeless jacket, but those things really don't bother me today. The fact that so many of the Kings family (children, siblings and cousins) are celebrating together with him, that they are all smiling, all look happy (especially Amalia and Ariane), and are colourfully and smartly dressed is more important - and they are.
    Happy Kings day to all!

Why has QM the hair like this?
Normally she has the blown -away- hair.
Nice to see Amalia out and about, looking the most straightforward one.
I like her fuchsia suit she looks as sweet as a flower here.

I have the opposite opinion.First good things.I appreciate the colorful outfits.I like the white and blue set of Princess Ariane, and the purple overall of Princess Marilena. Maxima - nice colors, but the bottom part of the dress is completely shapeless in my opinion. Laurentjen's outfit is brought down by bizarre shoes and terrible earrings.
Not for the first time, I thought why the Dutch royal ladies, who have a beautiful collection of exclusive jewelry at their disposal, wear such circus jewelry - earrings (mainly Maxima and Laurentjen)
I don't like pants on male royals. A narrowed cut of trousers (slim cut) and a jacket rarely suit men over fifty. Their trouser pockets stand out because they have something small in them. I really hope these slim cuts will be out soon.

King's day is a day of joy and dance and music and meeting with the people of Rotterdam (this year). There are video's and other websites where you see the DRF take part in games and attractions the people of Rotterdam prepared to celebrate the king's birthday. They cannot wear crown jewels on such days. You like it or not but Laurentien's shoes are fashion again and Maxima's are most fashionable and a new trend. You know QM is always in advance with fashion items that are on trend.

Too much going on with Maxima's outfit. The green dress is well, just too green and the material does not fit the day function. It looks silky. The white shoes? No, no... Rather a neutral colour. And I never understood the whole idee of a coat hanging loose over the shoulders. Then rather a cape.

The shoes are just awful, what will she wear next traditional Dutch wooden shoes. For some reason that I cannot explain this outfit looks like something out of the 30's or 40's. It does not look like she is not keeping up with the times, going reverse instead of forward. Can you picture this outfit on a other Royal lady!

I think the colors looks bright and happy. The top parts looks good but the pants and the skirt : oh no. They should be more tailored.

The best dressed are 1. CP Amalia : the cut of her pant suit is very good. The pink color suits her. She looks good with strong colors; 2. princess Marilene : the purple pants and blouse fits very well and I like the special sleeves.
    3. Princess Ariane is such a lovely girl but the color of her pant suit is a bit pale for her. I like the blue accents.
    4. QMax. is looking good in green but I don't like hemlines that are longer behind. The top is made of recycled cotton which is a plus. I like her shoes, very fashionable, but not with this outfit.
    5. Princess Aimée is looking good too. I like her cognac pants and shoes and the matching colors of her blouse.
The outfits of the other Dutch princesses were rather common or not beautiful at all (Princess Laurentien).
I won't mention the men's suits and shoes in detail. Some are good, other are horrible.

The princesses look very nice indeed, I like both outfits a lot, Amalia’s has a very flattering color and complements her figure very well, Ariadne’s is sleek and the blue accessories are on point, their hair looks just right for their age.
I wanted to like Maxima’s, but other than the color, the rest is just a fail for me, the skirt part looks rigid almost like a suit of armor, typical dress that you see in the runway for inspiration, but you won’t wear it out and about, the shoes could be cute with a summery pair of culottes, but with this dress, they just look awful.

  19. Maxima's outfit! the color is OK, but the hair thing, the dress, the shoes, the coat...not a good look at all. Amalia looks refreshed after spending solo time in la Feria de Abril in Spain and living it up! (why were her pictures deleted in NL?), Ariane looks good. I like the ladies purple outfit and the one with a beige dress and coat, very elegant.

The young princesses look wonderful--beautiful choices and such pretty girls too! Maxima looks--ridiculous. Breaking it down--the top half is good as the bright green is a good color for her but the skirt and shoes are dreadful. The shoes are really awful. The skirt is too wide, too stiff, and the hemline is not helping at all. The photo of her on stage with a speaker hiding the shoes and uneven hem turns this disaster into a much better look--so get rid of the shoes and tailor the hemline and Maxima is looking great. All of the other ladies look wonderful. Laurentian, being Laurentian, looks good but wish her jacket was much less wide and boxy. I'd also like to sneak into her closet and spirit away all her awful platform shoes--the ones she is wearing for this event might be the first ones I grab.

Maxima has gotten rid of the harsh orange blusher and looks so much better and even younger. I like her bright green silk headband. CA looks so much better and more at ease than she did on the island tour. The color is nice on her. Ariane is charming and dressed in a fun but young and appropriate way. The best is Marilene—really lovely ensemble.

  26. I may well be mistaken, but I think that even quite recently, the "dress code" for royal ladies at the King's Day festivities was full-length day dresses with hats. The vast preponderance of trousers and pantsuits here is a surprise, to me at least. Successfully pairing a long dress with a hat is very difficult to do -- I recall many unintentionally comical effects being achieved over the years -- so I would imagine that to the ladies involved, this is a welcome deviation from tradition. One of many to come, I suppose.

    1. You are mistaken. This event is called "King's Day" and is the official birthday celebration of King W-A. It is held in a different city of The Netherlands every year on April 27th. It is a joyous, festival like occasion in which the public greatly participates, with street parties, etc. The other event you mentioned is called "Prinsjesdag", held in September every year as the official state opening of Parliament. That is when the dress code asks for long court dress and hats.

"Bright" comes to my mind when I look at all the outfits. Most of the outfits look so colorful and well choosen.
Both sisters look wonderful but I especially like Princess Ariane's pantsuit. It fits her really well and I like the way she brightened it with blue headband and blue top, clutch, shoes, earrings. Good eye for the colors. I wonder how tall she is, her legs look mile long in this pantsuit.
Princess Amalia looks wonderful in her colorful Marina Rinaldi pantsuit, great find! Her hair look lovely but center parting looks a bit boring /Ariane's hair styling looked better with her headband).
Queen Maxima in green and white...you can not miss her on the photos. But not fan of the style of the dress, looks unflattering and uncomfortable to wear.

Such an event this must have been; these royals celebrate the king's birthday in a very unique way and I get the impression the whole nation is feeling happy on this day. On a fashion note, some look very good, others less, but all made an effort on this special day which apparently is appreciated by (the fast majority) of the people

I think Maxima's dress is beautiful in style and colour, together with all the off white accessories. Only this dress is imv not suitable for this occasion. The Dutch, who are kind of sober in dressing, love this kind of extravagant style of QM. The purple suit of Marilene stunning as well as the suit of Aimee. Etro has done much better things than this awful suit of Laurentien. Amalia better always wear Marina Rinaldi plus Suze. Alexia striking

Is it that difficult to spell the names of the Dutch princesses correctly ? I see that many of you cannot write the names of Ariane (Ariana, Ariadne...) , Laurentien (Laurentian, Laurentjen,...), Marilene (Marilena,...). If you look at the introduction of this topic you just have to transcribe it correctly.

This looked like a really fun day out - I watched some video and the bright outfits in the sunshine, with everyone seeming relaxed and smiling was good to see. The king, who in my opinion has looked a bit scruffy lately, really upped his game here - he looks well. Love the bright colours worn by Maxima, and Amalia really suits the colour and tailoring of her outfit. Ariane’s blue accessories are great. Marilene really stood out in the purple shade, and because she looked like she was having the best time!
No one is perfect, this family has faced much criticism, but I always like seeing this day each year and how close the royals get to the crowds etc - I hope people enjoyed the day

  36. Fabulous outfits all round. Love Princess Amalia's well cut trouser suit. She looks great. Princess Ariane's white suit with blue touches is lovely and perfect for her too. Love the Queen's hat and nearly love her dress--if only it had a straight hemline! My favourite though is the gorgeous purple outfit worn by, I think Princess Marilene, wife of Prince Maurits. Great to see the wider family out in support.

Watching all these lesser known Prince and Princesses who appear only for major occasions and live quietly the rest of the time makes me sad for the decision of Queen Margrethe to remove the Prince/Princess titles from Prince Joachim's family. Would it really have mattered if they'd kept the titles?

@AnnieM. The children of Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and her husband Pieter van Vollenhoven have jobs. Also Pieter van Vollenhoven had a job. Also King Willem Alexander's brother Prince Constantijn has a job, Princess Laurentien I don't know if she still has a job but she had one in the past. It is perfectly possible to keep your title and have a job like anybody else. There are a lot of noble people who has jobs f.ex. Arch Duke Lorenz von Habsburg Este the husband of Princess Astrid of Belgium always had and still has a job.
It is quite possible to keep the title and have a job at the same time. Maybe it is not the same or possible in every European royal family, I don't know. But it is always better than taking their titles or worse kicking half of your family out...
