On March 17, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Mons Barracks in Aldershot. The parade ended with a march-past where The Princess took the salute. Afterwards, the Prince and Princess met with soldiers and their families. Saint Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.

Catherine has better green outfits than this, and I'm not a fan of this particular green colour. I also think that the hat's too 'frou-frou'. However she is happy and smiling, and she plays her role and duties well as Colonel of this regiment.

According to British newspapers this colour is somewhere in the uniform of the Brigade ( I couldn’t find it..).
Nice model though, the hat maybe a bit too much,

    2. Mabel, it's the colour of the plume in the bearskin hats the Regiment wears. It matches to a t(ee).

I'm with quakeress - This outfit is definitely a win. Lovely color, and love the hat!

    7. As a matter of fact, I do. I like the color; I think there is a great contrast between the hat with its light, airy fluttery thingies on top and the rather severe, military cut of the coat. The pattern of the coat is very good, it fits like a glove and has elements of interest, such as the folds that accentuate the shoulders and the placement of the buttons. Paired with the high heels, there is a nice contrast between the femininity of the hat and heels and the severity of the coat. I think quite a bit of thought and a LOT of craftsmanship went into the outfit, and I appreciate that.

Well, to each their own. This outfit isn't one that I'd assign any element of craftmanship to, let alone a lot of it. Some minor style elements such as collar and shoulder detail perhaps, but that's not outstanding craftmanship to me. This is a long coat doing double duty as a dress, and to me Catherine has far better and stylish long coats in attractive greens that she has worn before. But again, to each their own. Be well.

    9. Maybe you are much better at sewing than I am; I must confess I always find it tricky to get clothing to fit really well (granted, Kate is easy to dress, not a lot of pesky curves to translate into a pattern, but anyway), and so I find it very gratifying if somebody gets it right, as Kate's team obviously did. :-)
      Cheers :-)

    10. I agree. Beautiful colour, but I believe the whole ensemble is too "old" for Catherine. And the hat while beautiful is too much.

Love this shade of teal! It's a fresh, vibrant, and exciting colour for early springtime. The proportions, shapes, and details are great, especially at the shoulders and cuffs. My fave accent is the pleated chiffon on the hat, just love how it gives a contrasting texture to the monochrome ensemble. This is definitely going into my "all time fave style moments" look-book.

I have just read that the reason Kate wore teal was very deliberate. The color matches the plumes in the guards hats, and the button placement on her coat matches the placement on their uniforms. This was done in honor of her assuming the position as Colonel of the Irish Guards.

Thoughtful of the PoW to choose the colour of the Irish Guards plume. As well as the sequence of the buttons.
I love femininity of the hat, in contrast to the structure of the coat. All in all, a wonderful first StPatrick’s Day for the new Colonel of the Irish Guards. Bea

Not my favorite color on Catherine for this event but apparently was chosen to match part of the uniforms. Her hat embellishment is an interesting contrast with the very structured lines of the coat. I was trying to determine if she’s wearing sapphire or emerald earrings. Does anyone know?

It's not really green and it's a bit too old fashion in my opinion. If the photos weren't in color, I'd think I was looking at photos from 1943 instead of 2023! I realize her outfit is supposed to have symbolism but it's a bit to far into the "costume" side of things. I wonder if a shorter hemline would be an improvement. It's funny; in the beginning her hemlines were too short. Now they seem to be regularly a bit too long.

  27. This is a beautiful teal outfit, the hat looks fabulous. The diamond and emerald cluster earrings are nice, but are rather mundane. Something of more substance would have looked better and given more of a impact. A decent pair of diamond earrings would have been better for overall look.

    3. Well, that she would appear for St. Patrick's Day was quite clear because she took over the position as the Regiment's Colonel (Irish Guards). And the Duchess of Edinburgh has been out and about too (and was featured as well, though, maybe not on this blog, but that is solely the blog owner's decision). Should you indeed get tired of the PoW, then please feel free to skip the posts dealing with her. Easy, isn't it?

Whilst I understand there’s somewhere an obscure similar shade of teal in the Irish Guards feathers, it’s not the colour of the shamrock nor the Kelly green one associates with this event. It seemed an odd choice to me. She also already has a coat dress and beautiful hat in this exact shade on her closet from a few years back. I think she also proved she’s out of tune with the British and Irish average folk, all struggling with the economic environment and raising cost of living. When she has at least 7 or 8 beautiful green coats with great designs in her closet… many of which only saw one outing. Spending more than she really needs on clothes that sit unused for decades (not to mention the impact of the environment-which presumably at least William actually cares about, is not going to set the right example. In particular by contrast with other members of the royal family. To me it’s a wasted opportunity to prove some leadership here.

Anyway… For the unusual choice she made - the cut isn’t necessarily great. It’s also pulling at her shoulders and underarms. Not particularly flattering either for her body type, she looks better and more elegant in a fit and flare silhouette in my opinion (of which she has a few Kelly green ones already in her closet… just saying).

I think a great deal of the British people like their heirs to the throne well dressed when the occasion needs it, it is a way of paying respect to the receiving end, in this case : the regiment.
I gather you must have seen the many pictures of K. in casual clothes, for example when she visits a school of young children, etc.or when she is at home.

Oh, I totally agree. British people will always prefer to see their royals dressed well. Which by no means is the same thing as recklessly spending on outfits only to use them once. I believe equating well dressed with pointless consumption is a mark of a bygone era. We now realize (at least some do) what that does to the planet and our society. We no longer know when to stop.
