Okay, this is hands-down the absolute strangest styling I have seen in a long while! Beautiful colored suit, but boxy, with collared blouse and...some of the blingiest , shiniest, most magnificent diamonds in any royal house. Diamonds more suited for a special evening occasion. All for a finance/business related gathering. I like Maxima alot and think that despite her hair and fashion woes at times, she is an asset to the Dutch royal house. But this is the strangest fashion miss for me. She might as well have just thrown on the Stuart tiara with this to top things off, ha!

Absolutely agreed. I don't understand why such a smart woman continues to look so bad all the time, from her hair and makeup to her clothing.

Absolutely right. These precious diamond necklace worn with an evening gown at a state visit or reception and here paired with a business suit - strange.

Totally agree. She loves "bling bling". The more the better. It's really not appropriate during a working visit

This is a much more coordinated, structured look and the monochrome wine colour looks lovely on Maxima. However I'm not so fond of the wide legged trousers, though.... they probably keep her cool in the heat of Morocco. I'd also have left out the necklace. Just the brooch and earrings would have been sufficient.

There is a category of people here for whom Queen Maxima cannot do good. Now that she is wearing a business style outfit it is not good : too much jewelry, to wide pants, etc... If she had worn one of her summer dress and fantasy jewels it wouldn't have been good either. But be patient people of the Netherlands. Queen Mathilde has been through this also but now that she wears from time to time her old Natan frocks again, most of the bloggers start to like it. One could think the queens of the low countries are in advance with their clothes, it takes the bloggers a couple of years to find out it is not that bad at all.

Completely agree with you; a few hours ago I posted a more or less similar response to a post about Queen Maxima of March 21 (the 'owl dress'). Far too often, in my opinion, it is about attacking an individual rather than voicing fashion criticism. We don't have to have the same opinion about the fashion choices of in this case Queen Maxima, but please stay fair and to the point.

@Anon 16:19 My comment about her too wide trousers was absolutely fashion related and not a personal criticism of Maxima. I also added that I understand the need for wide trousers to keep one cool in a hot climate. Maxima is one of my - if not the most - favourite Queens or royals. Please don't be in such a rush to say that everyone is dumping on her. A few of us are not, and there is a difference, whether it is apparent to you or not.

Indeed a blog about fashion does not require any critical user comments at all, we can just look!… but if we do comment let it be on the fashion and not the person, and let it be fair. In these comments here we have people criticising her skin, her choices, calling her “show off!” (from someone who runs a blog called Kinder Living no less)… it is mean and it is unfair. Imagine before you press publish that Maxima or her kids will read your comment and that you do not want to hurt their feelings; then adjust your comments accordingly.

That she considers meeting the King's sister and other dignitaries important enough to require wearing impressive jewellery. Not every culture has the same ideas about what is or isn't appropriate.

@Anon 9.13: the discussion here is about outfits. We do not know their characters nor their REAL accomplishments, since a lot of their socalled ‘work’ is created to give them an air of relevance.

@Anon 08:48 and LilyT: Since you have to ask, the global work Maxima does to improve the lives of women and children is on a scale that neither Letizia nor any other current Queen can take credit for, other than possibly Rania and future Queen Mette Marit.
And BTW LilyT, Maxima's work has nothing to do with giving her "an air of relevance". She was a knowledgeable financier in her own right before she became a Queen, and she continues to apply that skill and asset to her work. Have either of you ever listened to any of her speeches or debates? Or any of Rania's or MM's? You should, if you can understand their level of commitment and involvement.

There are certain rules governing the use of elaborate diamonds for ladies, whether royal or from other families, at least in Europe. A diamond necklace of the above type could be worn in the evening, the brooch perhaps for a tea party
and certainly for a formal dinner. The earrings could be worn during the day. However, elaborate diamonds are not worn very often these days because evening wear has become more casual and people tend to keep them in their
safes or even to sell them. Maxima’s choice of jewellry is beyond belief.

@ Viriginia. Life is too short to live by the rules you mention. She doesn't hurt anyone by wearing the jewels of her choice. And she met with Princess Lalla the eldest sister of the king. And for those who don't like her business suit, just take a look at the princess' suit. It is too wide from top to bottom, but on her no comments at all of course not she is not Queen Maxima.

There really aren't rules governing when diamonds can be worn - just personal preferences.

  22. Love the whole look. The trouser suit is lovely and a great colour for Queen Maxima. I'd have preferred a contrasting blouse but that's a minor quibble. Shoes are good, hair is tidy and the jewellery is fab. Well done, ma'am

Great suit! Beautiful color too. Like the simple hairstyle--especially for a business meeting. Way too heavy on the diamonds--the earrings or the brooch alone would have been fine but together plus the necklace is a no. Still I feel like I am seeing the right attire for the visit so, hopefully, things are heading in the right direction.

  24. Just trying to understand why Maxima is so decked out with diamonds for a daytime event.
WELL we all know that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” and as Maxima is alone for this visit, maybe to help her with her solitude, she has brought along her friends, the diamonds, to keep her company. Just my thoughts, nothing else.

  25. I love the suit and blouse, the color is gorgeous and I love allllllllll the blingy jewelry too. Is it conventional? NO but I love it anyway. And if she did wear the Stuart tiara I wouldn't care. She's a Queen and she enjoys wearing the bling and I would too. Why keep it in a jewelry case when you and all of us who enjoy seeing it, can wear it. Life is short ENJOY yourself. She's not hurting anyone.

  26. Anonymous23/3/23 11:15

Lovely color for the suit, however, it is bulky, pants too long, and the over the top jewelry pieces are not for business meetings. Today she scraped her dirty looking hair back, which was better than letting if fly around. The bronze makeup ages her face, rather than enhancing her natural beauty. At least she has not started using botox to get rid of wrinkles, though I wonder if she has used cheek fillers. Aging gracefully should be the norm, not chasing it with fake stuff that will harm her body. Edwina
