On Thursday, December 1, 2022, the Earl and Countess of Wessex attended the 95th Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The Royal Variety Performance is a televised variety show held annually in the UK for the purpose of raising money for the Royal Variety Charity. It is attended by senior members of the British royal family. This year, the Earl and Countess of Wessex represented the royal family at the show for the first time.

ردحذفThis is a beautiful dress and her hair and earrings I great. If the dress needs a belt I would prefer a proper one like a thin silver belt instead of this same fabric tie. It does not look as elegant as the dress requires. Ladyofthemanor
ردحذفIt’s a beautiful dress but I think it’s a style that looks best on a someone with a very slim figure. The high neck and tie waist do not really flatter C. Sophie’s curves. The earrings are lovely though. (V.M.)

حذفI totally agree as well. It doesn't matter your size, sometimes you just don't have the right body shape/frame for a particular style.

Very much agree an all the above said. The dress is quite beautiful but on Sophie it just looks wrong in proportion and does not suit her body type.
ردحذفThis is an interesting lesson in “one dress does not suit all”. Catherine has worn this dress and it worked well with her shape and looked terrific. It just wasn’t a great fit for Sophie, who is a lovely lady. Sophie’s hair and jewelry look beautiful.

It's great that she doesn't try to hide a mature woman's body. She isn't fat, I think she is in a good shape overall, and she is medium height. We are just so used to photos of super skinny and super tall younger women like Kate, that we sometimes forget that such super slim figure is not normal, especially not in a postmenopausal woman. The fault is not in Sophie or her dress but more in our eyes and perceptions and prejudices. I like her dress and she is absolutely glowing.

The only thing I would add to the comments above is that she needs a better bra. What she is wearing is not giving her enough support.

حذفSophie is a beautiful woman. I agree that larger busted ladies shouldn't wear a pleated top - it expands. Let's not forget that she will soon be 58 years old. i admit i'm always lenient with sophia when it comes to fashion because she has an amazingly positive attitude towards people, she's always dignified and never complains. Sophie looks beautiful. The fabric of this gown is gorgeous. Her hair up and makeup look fabulous. Her earrings are of substance, nice size and look great. Love her small evening clutch. I agree with the comments about the style of this dress and the fit for Sophie.
ردحذفWell chosen comments above. The Countess' hair, make up and jewelry are superb. The color and sparkle in the dress is magnificent, but the top does not do the Countess any favors. Truly, better fitted undergarments would have improved this look, maybe a wider "stretch" fabric belt to better define her waist. Stretch belts help me and I love how they improve my aging figure. But the Earl and Countess demonstrate a very festive look.

ردحذفSophie definitely needs to be measured up for better fitting undergarments. She’d be better with an open top or crossover to minimise size.
But, she brought her beautiful smile ! They’ve been married 23 yrs, and Edward still looks at her like they were in the first flushes of courtship ! Lovely couple !

It's positively matronly and makes her look as if she has a huge bust relative to the rest of her body which is something I've never noticed before. Therefore, it must be the dress. Think you would need to be very slim to look good in this..
ردحذفI agree with most that this is not a very flattering outfit, I also agree with the comments regarding that being 5’10” and 120 pounds is not your typical body and not every woman needs to be judged by these standards in order to be attractive and elegant, that being said, she could’ve look so much better by wearing a proper brassiere.

What happened to the countess stylist? A few years ago she was always really beautifully dressed. This dress is just frumpish and booring.
ردحذفI agree with the comments about the dress. From the front it is not at all flattering to her figure. It does not look too bad from the side however. Her hair and makeup look beautiful..

The material of the gown is perfect for Sophie's complexion, she looks quite radiant in a couple of the photos, however the style of the gown does not flatter her figure at all.
