I love everything about this look, and the belt is absolutely perfect with the dress in my opinion. One of her top best looks ever. The necklace has never been better worn before.

Wow, what a difference a photo angle can make! The first photo is not good at all and makes the look seem costume-ish. The second and third photos are lovely, but there's something off...I believe it's too harsh of make-up and too dark of an eyebrow tint along with the eyebrow arches being uneven. Great that she keeps the green theme and that the dress was apparently rented. Oh and the choker is a "No" for me. Larger emerald earrings would have perfected the look. Instead, it makes it look right out of the 1990's.

    5. Yes the first pic is rather bad... Back to fashion I like the dress very much for her, even if it is a bit unusual style for her. I see no problem with the belt. A dress is a whole from a style point of view, there is rather rarely an advantage in rejecting this or that. Very nice jewelry, worn with elegance.

  6. I've been waiting YEARS for her to wear the Cambridge Emerald Choker! I'm so happy she finally did! Unlike Alli, I have always loved the piece, which was made in 1911 and then redesigned in the 1920s to the art deco style. I think it's magnificent. The earrings are Asprey London's Emerald and Diamond Halo earrings, and retail for $11,375. They are new.

These earrings give us hope that she intends to wear this incredible choker more than just this time, earrings and choker fit together wonderfully. The light green and also the heavier than usual makeup makes her well visible for people standing far away from her. This was not an evening for meeting people in a room. Perfect! (-Ann.)

  9. I love how she stands out in this color, and why not with her perfect body? It's a fun play on the theme. Kate wears the clothes and jewelry, as always, and the clothes and jewelry do not wear her. She always embraces her unique qualities and it makes me fall more in love with her each time I see her. Her earrings are understated, but that is Kate's personality. Their detail is gorgeous and delicate, a wonderful contrast to her statement dress. She's poetry in motion.

I agree with Anon 14:31 about the belt. Her figure calls for some definition at the waist. She is so tall and slender with few curves that it defines her waist and creates a visual break. I agree with Anon 16:04 about her makeup. For an evening look, it is still subtle. If you look at the photos taken from a distance, it is barely noticeable.

  15. A rental gown and the Princess look's outstanding. This green shade color I love its unusual, suits her beautifully. The back view of the Princess in the gown, is equally as lovely as the front. The art deco emerald and diamond choker dating back to 1911 looks fabulous, her long slender neck shows this beautiful jewel piece to its best advantage. The diamond and emerald earrings were the perfect finishing touch, small, subtle just enough on this occasion. I wonder if they were a gift to the Princess. Her hair looked splendid, as did her makeup.
This has been a wonderful tour, both the Prince and Princess carried themselves with dignity and grace, well done to them both.

This is one dress that works well in theory, but looks very odd in practice. The colour, the look and the fit seems perfect, but the dress itself looks so disoriented for some reason. It is supposed to be absolutely bodycon, as seen on the model. Catherine obviously can't wear it that right, hence it looks ill-fitted in some pictures. It is supposed to fit like a glove but it didn't in this case.

For this event for the worries about our natural world everybody was asked not to come in new clothes and to use only vegan make-up.
I think Kates make-up is a bit too dark, but that can be the reason.
The dress is a harsh colour, but also chosen to fit the event.

She is wearing evening makeup. It is always heavier than daytime makeup. To go on a stage (to present an award) requires even heavier makeup. The lighting is very bright and she would look washed out without heavier makeup. I think some people know this, but apparently not all. This comes up often when the royal ladies are out in the evening.

  31. They look fabulous. It´s not an easy dress to wear, and Catherine not only wears it well, but she wears it even better than the model, I think.
The colour is too neon for my liking and I had prefered it a bit more muted, ideally darker to better match her jewels.
Make-up is heavy, her hair is glamorous, and I think she went for a slightly more American look.
William looks good, and his velvet jacket is very elegant, but I think he should have buttoned it up.
Regarding the theme of the event: I often find these things a bit iffy, and hypocritical. More ideology than actual impact. I all for recycled or rented outfits, but vegan make-up? What´s the point? How does the Earth benefit form that? Doesn´t the massive green carpet alone use up exponentially more ressources? Or the plastic walls put up as a photo background that were specifically made for this one day? Not to mention everything else that was consumed to put this prize ceremony together. If the point is to stop (over-)consumption and wasting ressources, the only sensible thing would have been to NOT hold the event in the first place (and instead plant a couple of trees each).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The backdrops and the green carpet will be re-used next time. They had made an appearance at first Earthshot prize as well. Trees are planted anyway, look up the Queen's green canopy.

      Delete
    2. Since it specifically says "Boston 2022" on the backdrops, I think it´s safe to say that the backdrops were never used before and will never be used again. As for the carpet - I guess it can be reused but I´m not sure whether that´s any better, as the prize will be awarded in a new location every year, and shipping the carpet across the world doesn´t exactly sound environmentally friendly either...

For the record: I don´t care about the carpet´s footprint as such - neither for production nor for shipping. In the context of a very complex world economy, one carpet is truly insignificant. I am reacting to the irony of people caring about the environment to the point they avoid new clothes and advocate for vegan make-up (only for this event, mind you, not in general!) all the while being totally blind (or ignorant) about the massive footprint an event like this causes. So, either their priorities are really messed up or they are hypocrites. (Or both.)

If they really meant what they preach, they wouldn´t hold a prize ceremony. Avoiding such unnecessary and wasteful extravaganzas should matter to THEM. This gala is hypocritical by THEIR standards.

    4. Yes. You're correct on the backdrop matter. Sorry for giving the wrong information. However, if you would just go and research the Earthshot prize finalists (and winners, of course) to see what great length they go to find solutions on environmental matters, how dedicated and determined they are, I'm sure you'd find that they deserve an award. Last year's winner in one category was the whole nation of Costa Rica who'd managed to reinstall about 90 % of their rainforests. People like them deserve recognition on a broader scale, with more publicity.

      Hi, Vanessa
I really enjoy reading your wise comments and I agree with you about a few points.
      I hear what you say.
Unfortunately, I do not have much time to take parte into this interesting conversations.
Just a note about vegan make-up.
It can be made of mineral raw materials without silicons and petrolates , which are used in traditional make- up industry, and are cruelty- free.
As to sustainable fashion, I seem to remember that new production criteria have been stated at least in Europe, so that fashion industries are gradually changing their production processes by using increaingly amounts of recycled materials and sometimes including second hand item purchases, not to mention renting dresses.
I know I am being a bit rough in my outline, but I must go now.
Wishing you and all the bloggers a fabulous Sunday.

      @ Vanessa
In vegan make- up products recycled materials are used for packing too
The main difference I have noticed in using vegan make- up is that there seems to be a higher percentage of aqua, so that primers and foundations do not apply evenly on my face and tend to smudge.
They do not contain parabens and above all the silicons , which are used just as pore minimizers and to get a higher coverage.
Mineral powders can correct this unven effect.

    1. Please remember there are many non native Engl speakers on this blog, avoid rather unusual acronyms (PDA = public display of affection) if I am right.

@MaryT You understood it. If people don't understand something, they usually ask. That is how we learn.

    3. Prince William has shown appropriate affection in the past. I saw nothing different this time.

I must be one of the few that truly dislike the fit of this dress, I find that it makes her torso look even longer, and yes she is very svelte, but this silhouette makes her look almost boyish. The color is fine, and if the dress would’ve had a little volume below the waist it could have been fabulous.
The jewels are breathtaking, but again too regal for the dress.
    Love the hair and makeup

No, you are not the only one at all. I don't think the gown flatters her body at all. I agree that a little volume around the hips-such as is demonstrated by the model-would have looked much better.

The jewels are gorgeous, but imo the harsh neon green color of the dress clashes with them and does nothing for Catherine (who fortunately looks beautiful even in a disappointing garment!). Does anyone know what fabric the dress is made of? It looks very stretchy.

I love her hair and jewelry. I am not a fan of the dress (though I like the colour) … I find that it emphasizes her long torso. Judy

Princess Catherine looks phenomenal, love everything: the neon opal green gown and its snug fit, the jaw- dropping jewelry, the fabulous hairstyle , which reminds me of Rita Hayworth , the glittering pumps and the incredibily well executed make-up (as far as I can see, the baking technique has been used).
William looks more dapper than ever.
The visible signs of love and affection between the two of them are priceless.
Although their trip seems to have been increaingly bumpy, it is so clear that they managed to round off their visit to the USA.
    Well done!!

Thank you, Dear Mary, Despite being a native speaker, I did not know what PDA stood for and it was very considerate of you to have made this helpful remark.

Sie sieht toll aus und William kann man ansehen, wie stolz er auf sie ist.

  48. Wow! The makeup is a little heavier than usual, the dress not a colour I would choose for emeralds, nevertheless the only comment this ensemble deserves is WOW!
Catherine wearing this choker speaks volumes.

  49. On the makeup point, I’d add that Princess Cathrine was probably using an American makeup artist and not her usual British one. This is usually the case when international people travel. They use local hairdresses, makeup artists etc.
If this was the case, the American artist may have applied her idea/s on what looks best for her client.
Or, Princess Catherine may have been happy for the artist to play around with vegan makeup, colours and styles.
    Just a thought.

Yes, @ Deadeggs, this is my thought too.
The baking technique, which means basically that different layers of makeup- products are applied one by one to one's face, was first introduced by an American make- up artist (if I am not mistaken).
It is a technique used also in burlesque shows for instance.
It can be profitably used when glamour under strong lights is required but it is not recommendable when going out and about in daylight or if you have dry skin.
This is due to its heavy effect.
It takes quite a long time to be applied if one is a beginner and I guess It takes even more time when using vegan products, which are a bit watery and call for more setting or fixing powders.
You might be asking yourself how come that I know all this make-up tricks and tips...
Well, because I have a penchant for make- up in general and I try to find out ways to create a ready- to- wear make- up for myself as I am almost always on the run.
I tried the baking effect on myself only once , to a New Year's Eve party, and it worked well and lasted quite a long time
As to Kate's hair ,the hair stylist created a work of art imo.
      I adore those waves.

I keep looking at the pictures and there is always one of the elements that doesn’t fit. The earrings are gorgeous, but do not go with the choker. The choker is fabulous, but would have looked better with her hair styled in an updo. I don’t know of many people who would feel comfortable in that dress, but Kate pulled it off. The make up is a little weird and uneven, but suitable for on-stage. All in all, not a very coherent appearance.
