On the evening of October 31, President Sakellaropoulou held a state banquet at the Presidential Mansion in Athens in honor of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are making a three-day state visit to Greece at the invitation of President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
Costarellos Lissie Silk Velvet Gown

Maxima looks very dignified in that dress.

This is a really interesting gown, with very unusual features. The back view of her gown is gorgeous. Queen Maxima wears this beautifully, especially with her height. The color's suit her well. Her choice of jewels is splendid. The diamond and ruby brooch pinned to her waist is really stunning.

حذفI agree with everything you said. Her hairstyle is beautiful.
I agree as well.
حذفWow what a regal look . I like everything in the queen look specially the gown
ردحذفSo Maxima!!
ردحذفQ. Max looks very good in the gown with the ruby tiara. I think she could have left off the large brooch though…it competes with the pattern of the dress. (V.M.)
ردحذفVelvet is a tricky material. It reflects the light differently depending on the angle and can shift from very bright to very dark. Here, unfortunately, it´s the very dark reflection that´s prevelant, causing a stark contrast between the various tiers in the dress. The dress looks much more harmonious on the model with only slight differences in the shades of red.
ردحذفI like this design but I wonder if the velvet was sewn in upside-down? I once made a mistake when sewing a velvet dress and cut one panel in the wrong direction of the fabric. It had a totally different shine to it than the rest of the dress and therefore ended up looking awful. A very visible mistake. I suspect a similar effect here, not necessary a mistake - possibly even intended - but I don´t like it. I wish this very beautiful design looked on Maxima as it does on the model.
The brooch at the waist is superfluous.
The Greek president looks nice in her dress. I wish though, she had chosen a more substantial necklace and put her hair up, at least in a half-updo.
The regional costumes in the last photo (on the steps) are fantastic.
I don't mind Ms Sakellaporoulous hairstyle but I think she should not put her ellbows in the table.
حذفTotally agree with you about the dress and the brooch. The dress does not need a brooch and she is visiting a republic where the president doesn't have access to this kind of jewellery. The president wears no insignia, the men are in business suits so I find Queen Maxima over the top. The tiara is actually too much as it is not a formal occasion but I´ll let it pass.
حذفLadyofthemanor
Well, I like this dress on Queen Maxima but I'm not too sure about the stomacher brooch she has pinned to it. I think the gown has enough going on that the brooch is too much. She does look great though. I also find it interesting that the 2 men are wearing regular suits while Max is blinged out and the President is also wearing a formal gown. I love the traditional dress worn by ladies in the last photo!
ردحذفJanet
No, I don't particularly like these traditional costumes worn by these Greek ladies, but even more strange are the traditional costumes worn by the men - as seen in some photos. Ceremonial "soldiers" wearing white tights and a skirt. The king doesn't seem to enjoy this visit, but Maxima with her optimism can "outbalance" a not so friendly atmosphere.
حذفPauline
Goodness me - what a culturally ignorant comment Pauline, on so many levels.
حذفI do not understand negative comments about any kind of national dress or costume. It is traditional attire on both, men and women, there's nothing to make snide comments about. The women display different regions of Greece in their dresses worn. And yes, ceremonial guards (male) do wear tights and skirts, it is part of the tradtition. As do the Scots (minus the tights). Other than that, I do wonder about the general dress code for that State Banquet. Maxima in all the royal splendour and the men in business suits. Eerrrm... *scratches head*
حذفEspecially on the last pic Queen Max fits in.
حذف@Pauline: Evzones Guards, please research...Siv
حذفLove Queen Maxima but not a great fan of this dress. The colour is fabulous and the tiara matches perfectly but I don't like the horizontal stripes. I do like the colour and style of the dress worn by the Greek President who looks like a wee girl next to the much taller King and Queen
ردحذفAlthough I love the brooch, I don't think it was needed with this gown, which has enough interest on its own. But, how can I complain about a tiara, earrings and a brooch? They are so beautiful. And Queen Max never shies away from wearing the bling! King Willem looks tired in most pictures. I hope he is not ill. I love the traditional styled dresses of the ladies in the last photo.

ردحذفMaxima put on clothes by Greek designers to honour her and her husband's hosts. The Greek president doesn't look very stylish or elegant - the Greek president earns twice as much as, let's say, the German president - funny for a country that had to be bailed out some years ago because it was bankrupt.
ردحذفPauline
And, how is that relevant on this thread ?
حذفOh,Pauline........Try not to bite your tongue.....So much poison, why????
حذفYou don'nt like the traditional costumes, you don't like Queens dress, you know the europeans presidents salaries and you know the sentimental contition of the King,or the friendly or not atmosphere...
Wow,you are something else.......
No comment, next please.
حذفIt seems that Pauline may have the numbers mixed up:
حذفThe German president earns €258,000 per year.
The Greek president earns €138,732 per year.
Therefore, the German president earns about twice as much as the Greek one.

Heard it through the grapevine?
حذفFabulous fall look for the Queen! She looks regal, and the color is so becoming on her.
ردحذفI don't know what to think about Queen Maxima's Costarellos' dress. At first and from a distance I didn't like it. When I saw the pictures in close-up I must admit that it is beautifully made. I think if the lace was used to make the bodice and the velvet for the skirt, it would have been more to my taste. The Greek president's dress is lovely. The lady in the 3rd picture has a beautiful emerald green dress (seen from the back). Maxima's jewelry is a bit overdone. The men are dressed in a simple black suite.
ردحذفI never would have imagined that a horizontally-striped gown could make the wearer’s legs look like they go on forever. That is quite the couture parlor trick, and I’m very impressed. The back view of this gown is breathtakingly graceful and majestic. I’d never have done any dress in top-to-toe horizontal stripes, especially not an evening gown — and I do think this gown would be more attractive in a solid color — but it does manage to look regal even with the stripes, a remarkable achievement imo. — Jane

ردحذفAwful dress !!!!
ردحذفA very nice, special dress that suits Maxima very well.
ردحذفI donot understand the place of the brooch; when sitting for dinner it must be under the table and pricking in her stomach.
Why not on her shoulder?
The men wearing just day- costumes makes a strange combination.
Mabel
The dress is beautiful but it is spoiled in part by the brooch. It doesn´t make any favour to the outfit.
ردحذفAgain a gown from a Greek fashion house, Christos Costarellos.
ردحذفAlthough born in Germany he has made his name in the Greek fashion world.
He was born into the ‘rag trade’ with his mother being a seamstress and his father a tailor.
He is famous for his wedding dresses and received a worldwide publicity boost from one of his wedding dresses that was worn by Carrie Symonds for her wedding in 2021 to the then British prime minister, Boris Johnson.
If my memory is working well, Queen Maxima has worn one or more of his creations before.
On this occasion, his velvet gown, as worn by Queen Maxima, is bold but that’s right up Queen Maxima’s street. Hair, makeup, jewelry, 10/10
I don’t think they have a dress code of white/black tie and tails in Greece. But I could be wrong.
In photo N°9, I’d love to see a full photo of the tapestry on the wall behind the Royal couple.
I think this is a very exciting dress. Crochet with velvet. Craftmenship as a symbol in times that we have an abundance of disposable clothes every year. In general I think that lots of female royals could do more in being rolmodel for sustainability. I think that the dress is more suitable for a winter gala. It looks heavy and is dark ( although beautiful colour red). Yes and the jewelry! Did you know that the Dutch royal house has the second biggest jewelry collection after the British?
ردحذفThank you for letting us know about jewelry .

ردحذفLa spilla messa lì sulla pancia ė proprio da evitare, in questo caso e in genere sempre.
Rossella 🌹
As usual for Queen Maxima over the top.
ردحذفRien à redire sur Maxima ; elle est magnifique dans cette nouvelle robe sans oublier les bijoux diamants/rubis même si je pense que sa broche me semble de trop !
ردحذفDress is a work of art and no, it is not OTT because if you are a Queen that is how you roll. I am sure people of Greece loved seeing the Queen showing her respect to the country with her best attire just like Mathilde did in Lithuania. I am so happy they didn't go for "less" when visiting smaller countries. Also, both occasions did not have white tie dress code but Queens made up for that.
ردحذفDP
This is a fabulous look for Queen Maxima - I think the dress and hair are absolutely stunning.
ردحذفOnly quibble would be the stomacher brooch which I don't think is necessary.

I fully agree. This rich wine coloured velvet with crochet is made very well, with the strokes extremely well placed. Gorgeous neckline, finishings at the arms. Very nice hair, make-up, jewellery. This is Maxima at ther best. I do agree on the stomacher brooch, placed regularly on the shoulder would have looked better.
حذفI
It is a coincidence that this post is placed directly under the one of Madeleines Halloween-Outfit. I saw the Halloween-costumes first so I can find Maximas dress only ridiculous.
ردحذفI'm torn on this one. The cut itself is divine - the high neck, the train, the flowy skirt... It's also beautifully styled with the ruby tiara and the accesoires. And I also quite like it from afar when you only see the stripe pattern. I'm not fully sold on the crochet parts, though. Maybe it's the way it photographs, but I prefer the model's version where the two reds are more harmonious. Maxima's has the air of an art and crafts project. A very pretty one, though :)
ردحذف-Nika-
This gown is beautiful and the rich color what a compliment to the Greek designer. The jewels are just exquisite. I wish I could look in M jewelry Box; This would make my day. css
ردحذفOverdressed, especially compared to the President of Greece. Wearing a tiara with rubies and diamonds, + a huge brooch. A bit ostentatious, but that's Maxima.
ردحذفEs un vestido raro ,creo que era demasiado extremo para la ocasión. En Grecia no hay realeza por eso la tiara también sobra. Y el broche en la barriga es horrible ..
