On October 5, 2022, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Queen Jetsun Pema, Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel and Prince Ugyen Wangchuck celebrated 'Dassain' with the people of the Hindu community at Lingkana Palace. Dassain is the most important festival for the Hindu population in Bhutan.
Dassain was declared a national holiday in 1980. Dassain is a major Hindu religious festival in Nepal. It is also celebrated by Hindus of India and elsewhere in the world, including among the Lhotshampa of Bhutan and the Burmese Gurkhas of Myanmar.
