Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch and head of state for 69 years, passed away at the age of 96 at Balmoral in Scotland. According to the statement of the Buckingham Palace: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
After doctors expressed fresh concern, Prince Charles and Prince William went to Scotland today and were present by the Queen's side. Today, ten days of national mourning will begin, while the royal households will observe the mourning for 30 days.
The sad news came 517 days after the death of the Queen's late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away at the age of 99 in April 2021. The couple were married for over 73 years and shared four children, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. The Queen also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Several people commented on how frail the queen looked in the photos with Liz Truss, and I myself thought that the contrast between this tall young woman and this old frail lady was striking. I also thought that this would likely be the last PM that the queen will welcome into office, but I didn´t want to spell it out, so I refrained from commenting.

I watched the clips of her stunt with James Bond at the olympic games and the wonderful clip with Paddington Bear.
We knew, the day will come, but we all thought and hoped this day will be far, far away.

I am so lucky to have been in London for the Jubilee this year and to be there when she appeared on the balcony for the last time. I don't know if anyone here knows this, but the new king is named after his godfather the Norwegian King Haakon or as QE and the family called him uncle Charles. We learn something new all the time. The Queen will be missed. My thoughts go to her her family and her people ❤️
