On September 22, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark took part in the international launch of Denmark’s candidacy for a seat on the UN Security Council in 2025-2026. Before the launch, the Crown Princess received a briefing from Denmark’s UN ambassador, Martin Bille Hermann. The Crown Princess then visited the UN mission and the Consulate General of Denmark in New York and greeted the staff members.

Simply but elegant. This is an important meeting with the current situation in Europe, the crown prince and Danish prime minster should be involved. Its seems like she is the leader of Denmark lately.

حذفI also thought that it is weird for Mary to be on such a mission. This is way beyond her capacity as princess consort. Crown princess she may be, but she´ll never be a regent. And this kind of negotiation isn´t royal work to begin with - this is as political as it gets and should be handled by the PM.

حذفI´m saying that this kind of high-profile political business is part of a PM´s job, not a crown princess´s.
I´m 100% certain that Mary does like the big stage. And that´s not even criticism, as that desire to be in the spotlight is almost a precondition to perform her role. It is not uncommon for royal consorts to be more extroverted, more media-savvy, more attention-seeking than their royal-born spouses who don´t necessarily have those qualities and - since they hardly can opt out of their roles - often "hide" behind their camera-ready consorts and prefer to stay in the background whenever possible. I think this is very true for Fredrik and Mary. I´m just surprised not to find the Danish PM leading this mission. Maybe Mary is simply the biggest "gun" in Denmark, so they send her on all sorts of missions, and Mary being Mary (outgoing performer with PR-background) will gladly accept and thrive on it.

@Vanessa, your explanation doesn’t take away the cattiness of your original post. I personally respect your comment, however you seem to assume that she is the negotiator, and off you go. She traveled with a delegation, and I can only surmise that they are the ones doing the political work. I don’t see Mary doing any grandstanding in general, she seems the perfect consort, however I must admit that unlike the British that assigns few relevant causes to the consorts, some other European Royal Houses actually have the women more involved in causes that in the past were “ men only” issues.
