The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a reception in San Ignacio

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a special reception at the Mayan ruins at Cahal Pech in San Ignacio, Belize during day three of their Caribbean tour. The event, which demonstrated the best of Belizean culture, was hosted by the Governor General of Belize in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Today, the Duke and Duchess will travel to Jamaica. At the reception, The Duchess wore a pink gown by The Vampire's Wife.

hmm, the DoC looks a bit overdressed for this reception and the dress (of which I do like the neckline) gives me a little mermaid vibe ...

This was the event before the reception, the host; lady in green is also well dressed for the indoor reception. William changed after this.

Ahhh. Thanks for the explanation because I too was thinking she's a bit overdressed. She should have followed William's lead and did a quick change before the "main event" as it were. It takes talent, and sometimes a lot of searching, to find that perfect outfit that truly "transitions for casual to formal/day to evening."

If you like Barbie-pink glitter, you'll love it! But even then it's hopelessly wrong for the occasion. - Ellie

William is very under dressed or Catherine is over dressed for this event. perhaps if her dress was mid length, needless to say its a beautiful dress, i hope we see it again in a more suited event.

    2. The indoor event was dressy. William changed clothes after the outside event ended. The lady in the green dress was also dressed up. Guess the ladies decided not to do a quick change.

I quite like the dress;but it might have been better knee length.Kate's hair looks a little limp;she needs to have it a little shorter;a few highlights and layers. The earrings are nice;they look Mayan design. The makeup looks fresh;the lipstick needs to be darker to make her face appear brighter. The tour has been a success;a good representation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth(Tabby)

  5. I think the Duchess of Cambridge looks beautiful in her pink dress. I cannot tell If she is overdressed or William is underdressed or vice versa!

She is not overdressed, that is a way to show respect to the country they are visiting, why is it appropriate to wear a gown in LA and not in Belize?

    Another perfect look.

    1. It’s rude to show up your hosts, which this photo appears to show; but possibly others changed clothes? It’s a beautiful dress.
Catherine looked perfect the last time she visited Los Angeles. Whatever do you mean?

Kate looks absolutely great .... but what I do not like much is the shiny fabric of the dress.

When I look at the other female authorities, like the lady in green, they look all dressed up. The men are not. So I think the Cambridges are dressed according to the protocol. Love the pink dress of Kate, modern and giving her a young and vibrant look

Catherine's dress look grogeous. Her sleek hairstyle is also very beautiful.
Compared to others bright, glittery, floor-length dress may look over the top but I like it when royal ladies dress up :)
There's been so little occasions in the past two years to dress up in glittery and floor-length dresses, so I don't mind seeing Catherine in this dress at all.

Catherine is overdressed. Too much bling bling for a reception at the Mayan ruins. On the second photo William's pants are really frumpy and a bit dirty on is left knee. The only thing I really like here are the earrings. They look like they are made in old silver. Maybe she bought them in Belize.

I think she looks fantastic! William looks nice too. Agree looks a little mixed between them, but as someone once said '...one can never be too over-dressed...'! There are other pics (presume towards the end of the event) where it has gone dark; and the outfit really shines, and the 2 looks appear more compatible imo. Zed.

  12. Catherine's dress is gorgeous. I don't think I've ever seen her wear this color before, and I think it suits her. The draping of the sleeves is a nice touch.
I love her earrings and clutch. The green dress worn by the unidentified lady is also beautiful, especially with her necklace.

Very odd choice for the event and a bit cheap looking material. The handbag is mismatched with a dress. I like her straight hair style though.

Kate is carrying a Mayan embroidered handbag. It was chosen purposely to honor her hosts and the setting. ~d

Glimmer and pailette dresses aren´t appropriate for a visit in a Mayan ruin and the handbag with it´s traditional pattern doesn´t match the blingbling dress. So a no from me. And I have to be honest - iusually I like Kates hair, that long, wavy sportive look. I am not happy about the center parted look. It is somehow boring and not as flattering as the look she used to wear her healthy hair in.

I agree about the hair. Too much Queen Letizia's style which I don't like. Why are these royal ladies always trying to imitate each other ? (Crown Princess Mary ?, Queen Letizia ?, Duchess Catherine ?

They aren't always trying to imitate each other. Why would you assume that? Thousands of women wear similar hairstyles.

Photo #2 is wonderful. Can’t decide which I like more, the green or the pink, both are lovely, especially in this photo.

I’ve read fabric descriptions on TVW website for fabric details. Kate’s dress may be silk-lamรฉ or chiffon, and the colour appears magenta or hot pink on my screen. Given the high dew points, I think it’s a comfortable, bold fashion choice, well suited to this fascinating setting. The embroidered clutch caught my eye, too.

    Frizure is on point.

It's a beautiful dress and of course the DoC looks beautiful in it. But I agree with the poster who stated it should have been shortened to cocktail length. Kate looks seriously out of place compared to everyone else.

  19. I think she looks beautiful but I agree that the look is over the top given the setting and William´s (and others´) casual style. On a different occasion where glamour is appropriate, this would turn heads. I especially like her earrings and her centerpart. I don´t remember ever seeing her hair styled like this, and I must say I like it.

  20. When I first saw the photos I thought the Cambridges had received invites to completely different events because William was so casually dressed while Catherine was dressed for a gala evening. I was relived to know William did a quick change for the indoor event. I have to admit I am on the fence about Catherine's dress. I get she's dressed for a gala evening but this dress...there is a bit of a Barbie doll vibe. She looks fabulous--and maybe she was branching out again with her formal wear (remember that splendid gold dress for the Bond film premiere)--but this dress is a lot of bright pink. Her earrings and hair are fabulous.

Love Catherine's hair here – goes so well with the earrings and the whole look. Truly lovely and also fun yet appropriate for the gala that was following this introductory event. Absolutely gorgeous! -- Nina

  23. The Duchess looks splendid. The gown, though I am not a fan of the shiny material, this looks so elegant, it suits her beautifully. Her hair sleeked back and the large earrings, she looks superb. Her makeup is perfect. Love her shoes and clutch. They are both doing so well on this tour.
