On February 16, 2022, King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel visited the Royal Swedish Opera to see the opera performance, The Promise (Löftet), directed by Stefan Larsson. The Promise is the story of Ava who becomes separated from her husband, Teo, in a concentration camp. The performance is inspired by Hungarian-born librettist Susanne Marko's own family history and depicts the reunification of a Jewish couple in the aftermath of the Holocaust.

Victoria's dress look horrible imo. There's something about it that scream "old woman" style (especially with her thight bun). Its style is unflattering, old-fashioned and print too busy. Sorry don't like it at all.
Silvia's dress (or suit) looks more flattering and elegant. Often less is more.

@Unknown MM (Anon 10:50) hasn't said anything that hasn't said before about the way Victoria dresses. Her style has been called old fashioned and unflattering for years. She gravitates towards prints, usually florals, and has a lot of plaids. Her bun is severe, and it does age her visually. She would look younger with her hair down. I have speculated that she thinks she must dress in a more severe way to be taken seriously as the future queen. If this is true, I would say that I don't agree. I think she will be an amazing queen and her clothes can be more stylish and flattering at the same time. Since this is a fashion blog, where opinions are given on the clothes that are being worn, the comments were fair. I am not sure who you think is being made to feel bad, but as a reader, I am not feeling bad about it and we know Victoria isn't either. BTW, The commenter is not "anonymous".

Reg. CPV's dress I think the pattern and the colours are cool, but the shape a bit to loose.
Would have been nice if Daniel had a black/dark grey suit with a tie in gold/yellow stripes or something that matched her.
Blue suit with black tie..? Black tie is associated with grief..

What is wrong with wearing a black tie? In Sweden, men wear white ties when attending funerals of close family members. There is nothing wrong with a man or a woman or a child wearing black. Some people love black and wear it a lot. *Regina

Q Silvia looks absolutely elegant. Wonderful color and fit of her suit and such great statement necklace adds to her look.

Not a fan of CP Victoria’s look here. This is not flattering her coloring or beauty- to have such a baggy formless dress with her hair so severely pulled back.
At most that dress could be salvaged into a blouse worn with nicely tailored straight or slim trousers or pencil skirt. You could even make a scarf out of it but it is just too much print, fabric, billowing and not even flattering on the model especially with those military boots.

I do like CP Victoria’s great earrings along with her big, warm smile.

It is a miss for CP Victoria, this style of dress looks old and the print is too busy, also her hair makes her look too severe and old. Queen Silvia looks very elegant and classy in that suit and the colour looks good on her.

  8. Queen Silvia's beautifully fitted suit in this lovely warm fuchsia is as elegant as always. I also like her wrap. CP Victoria's dress would benefit from a similar neckline to her mother's outfit, making her look less "stuffed" Given the busy pattern perhaps a slim sleeve would have been a belter option. Not awful, just not great

    1. I agree with AnnieM : Not awful, just not great. What could improve it ? no ruffle at the sleeves in my view.

Love CP Victoria's dress, the pattern is dramatic, spectacular. The Queen is lovely as ever, the gentlemen were dressed well for the Opera. jj

  10. Queen Silvia looks marvelous in her elegant fuschia suit. Just can't muster any love for CP Victoria's mess of a dress--sometimes I feel seeing a dress like this in person would make like it more but don't think that would be the case with this dress (its still pretty awful on the model). Kudos though to Victoria for so often supporting Swedish fashion.

  11. Queen Silvia looks beautiful, a stunning shade fuchsia? I think, she wears this colour so well. The suit is divine, the fit and cut is perfect. I have noticed her suits are always on par, and fit perfectly. I love the wrap she wore on arrival. Her shoes and clutch coordinate well. The Queen is the epitome of elegance. Some parts of CP Victoria's dress are nice, but I think it is the loud print that is IMO too much, but regardless of how I feel, the CP seemed to enjoy this performance immensely, she looked engaging and happy.
