Swedish Queen Silvia celebrates her 78th birthday today, on December 23, 2021. Queen Silvia was born in Heidelberg, Germany on December 23, 1943. Silvia Renate Sommerlath met the King during the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. They announced their engagement at the Royal Palace of Stockholm on March 12, 1976 and they got married on June 19, 1976. The Queen has three children and eight grandchildren. The Queen's birthday is a national flag day and an official day on which salutes are fired.
