    1. I think those "lovely little" earrings can be attached to the humongous Stuart tiara. Gorgeous diamonds.

  2. Maxima's hair and makeup are perfect but when it comes to the dress... I wouldn't wear it whether it is Valentino or not.

    Fringe? Yes, please!

    Lattice macrame? Ummm, no thanks...

Would I wear this? No, but Q Max actually pulls it off nicely with a wink and a nod ;-)

    1. So this is "Valentino".
You can see the dress advertised on the internet at an average price (with discount) of about €4000.
No thanks. I'll stick to Marks & Spencer.
€4000 for a disaster like that. Again, no thanks.

Sadly, she got it wrong again. This dress/shoes should be worn to a light concert, or party, not a meeting about new business. clair

  5. Makeup and hair look very nice. Dress ugh. I can't believe Valentino produced such an article. It is also totally unsuited to an afternoon engagement

  6. I hope her wrist heals soon. I wish this dress just had the mesh at the neckline, with a solid black column dress. That would have looked chic. But with that fringe at the arms and hem, not a fan. Her hair looks great. Her bronzer is a little heavy handed. I am so happy she did not pair this dress with gaudy jewelry though, that's a huge accomplishment for her.

Love Maxima's hair and makeup - and her always beautiful smile - the best here. Not a fan of the dress. It all looks very awkward to me the way it wears on her.

I agree about this dress - never have been a fan of it. Possibly a better under garment needed also! Maximas hair and make up are lovely today, albeit the bronzer is a bit heavy.
That close up of her face is a great pic - a beautiful lady whatever she wears.

But I for one, can't help but like her. She's fun.

  10. I love Queen Maxima but really?? I just laughed out loud when I saw this Goth like effort. When I looked quickly at the first picture I though for one awful moment she was wearing gym leggings or some kind of bizarre fishnets!! It looks slightly better when she is standing but it's awful when she's sitting. Hair is still nicely styled :)

  11. Everything great except for the bronze blush and lipstick as it ages the Queen. Earth tones are not her colors.

Agree bronze blush is never under any circumstance a suitable color for her complexion, although I don't see it as ageing. Lipstick color is okay. Dress, shoes, hair, jewelry are all beautiful, while perhaps I myself would have chosen a dress color to blend or camouflage the white wrist brace, instead of black which starkly contrasts with it and makes it prominently noticeable. This is not a criticism, just an observation. S.M.

    2. I agree!! To me the dress is Ok for those who want to wear ! There is originality, elegance and yes a bit of eccentricity, but why not occasionally.
But yes the make up is not suitable for her. Sandals are nice and fit perfectly.

This would be a fun dress for a cocktail reception, but not for a lecture. The skirt looks terrible when she’s seated, and the fringed sleeves are a distraction. (V.M.)

I truly want to like it, but just can’t. This is a horrible choice fishnet sort wit a cabaret vibe. It’s not elegant, fluid or chic. Big miss for me. The fact that some are complementing her hair is puzzling, she should have good hair always when in public, she is a queen and a millionaire to boot.

  16. It is hard to critique Queen Maxima because she is such a lovely lady. But one observation I have noticed is that she really loves elegant evening clothes with all of the embellishments, sparkle, sequins and all that glitters. Unfortunately she does not have the fashion sense to wear them in the evening and not as daytime attire!

I'd just kept the mesh at the neckline. Once the fishnets at the hem and the sleeves are taken away it will be a nice little black dress. Marcy

  18. Un no rotundo.
Las fotos de excelente calidad, primeros planos, de cuerpo entero, en general
no es asi , espero que mejoren la eleccion de las fotos de otras princedas y reinas, lo apreciaria.

  19. This had potential but is totally ruined by the netting/fringe at the bottom. It´s too much of a good thing and ends up looking cheap. The design at neck and sleeves alone had been good. Maybe it just doesn´t look as good in a seated position. I also question this kind of dress for the occasion of a lecture: even if it extended into the evening, I think something less nightlife-looking had been better (applies to make-up as well). Her hair looks great though.

If you read the comments in general in this blog my conclusion is that people like tailor made more or less classical clothes for the female royals. But Mรกxima dresses always audacious that sometimes results in dazzling evening gowns or the oppositie terrible missers or clothes not suitable for the occasion. But always clothes we can talk about in extenso.

I agree with you. As a rule, the readers here are not very adventurous with fashion, at least on royals, but probably in their personal lives as well. ~d

    2. I also agree on an excess of severity here towards innovative styling but however harmonious. Her choices are however not always adapted to the occasion.

Don’t fret about possible lack of adventuresome style amongst NMR commentators...I am a style trailblazer myself, comfortable with knowing when to pay homage to the rules, and when to toss the rule book aside!

My late, great stylish mama was my first teacher of fashion, and I learned from her how to listen to opinions, and yet know oneself. She often referred to the simple metric of TPO (time, place, occasion) in terms of curating a look.

As a matter of fact, my friends will often ask for my eye and constructive critique on an ensemble. Of course, I remind them that the foundation of every look is confidence in one’s own skin. Age, size, shape, and budget are meant to be variables, which need not limit style, but can create opportunities and fabulous results.

    OMG ……
What a mistake to wear a look alike 'costume- dress' to this kind of prize awards, it looks so theatrical !
Everything from top to toe would have been perfect for the red carpet to the Oscar Awards, but not not for this occasion.
Anyway, her hair looks gorgeous. / L
