Charlotte Casiraghi released a video about various books on Chanel's website. In the video, Charlotte Casiraghi suggests a selection of books mixing literary genres and tonalities. From classic literature to contemporary authors, their common point is that they are about the life of women. Charlotte Casiraghi wore a cotton jacket from Chanel.
Some books recommended by Charlotte, which were written by women, are The Cost of Living by Deborah Levy, Outline by Rachel Cusk, Blonde : A Novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Grand Union by Jadie Smith, The North Face of the Heart by Dolores Redondo, Save Me the Waltz by Zelda Fitzgerald, The Heptameron by Marguerite de Navarre, and Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney.

Chanel Cotton Multicolour Jacket
Pity she wore sunglasses. I'd like to see her without them; for an interview they cover her face too much in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate and admire that she loves books, reading and literature. Great!
Troszkę "po męsku".
ReplyDeleteTroszkę jak Charlene...

Very pretty ...
ReplyDeleteShe is such a gorgeous woman, I love that she keeps her makeup so natural. This jacket is not my favorite, it reminds me of hospital gowns at several ones I have worked in (not the lapels, but often they are striped with a little pattern, not the Chanel logo, but something similar LOL).

I agree. I think Chanel has really failed to live up to the style and quality of Coco.

That´s an awful jacket. I´d wear it to paint walls at best.
ReplyDeleteMerci,
DeleteVous m'avez bien fait rire !

As worn by Charlotte, ok to that original jacket, although we don't see the bottom. But the combination as worn by the model is awful yes. A bit expensive as an outfit to paint walls... yes where is the charming fashion design of Coco Chanel.
DeleteDitto, paint jacket all the way! I’m
DeleteOn se moque de ses divagations littéraires et prétentieuses, personne ne s'y intéresserait si elle n'était pas la fille de Caroline, sa tenue est horrible...

Speak for yourself.
DeleteIf you enjoy something genuinely and she clearly does watching this video then it isn't pretentious. The fact that it doesn't appeal to is your problem not hers.
Your other problem is your inability to post anything pleasant...

All of the people we follow here only get attention because they were born or married into a royal family. However, Charlotte is actually very intelligent, has spent a lot of time studying philosophy and literature, and knows what she is talking about! So it's not like she is just talking about it because she is royal & famous and pretends to know something, she actually does. Being Caroline's daughter didn't get her her degree from the Sorbonne!
DeleteThis is an interesting discussion, and can see points on both sides of the conversation.
DeleteI will give Charlotte credit for her interest in literature and philosophy in particular, also for studying at a high level and making it to a degree from Sorbonne. I also think she comes across as more genuine when we hear her talk than when we see her from pictures and videos.
However, I will argue that being royal probably helped a great deal with getting that degree from Sorbonne (who will decline an application from a royal or have her fail at exams?); and it is definitely true that we only talk about her because of her royal background. Which other recent literature or philosophy graduate from Sorbonne (merited or not) do we know? I can also see why Mariamar is amused by Charlotte participating in literary discussions. Even if her contributions are profound and indicate that she is well read and knowledgable (my French isn´t good enough to make a judgement) - any such contributions would be in sharp contrast to the lifestyle she leads which is that of the rich, careless, nonchalant, flamboyant, superficial and ignorant to the problems of the less fortunate... If she really had arrived at philosophically profound awareness, you´d expect her to be more down-to-earth and most of all - humble. Instead, her appearance here is mainly about fashion and jumping on the new-feminism bandwaggon - neither of which are even remotely philosophically profound.
She may well be rich and "nonchalant" and undeniably privileged but I think it is unfair to suggest that she got her qualifications because of her relations - and I expect the Sorbonne would take exception to that idea. She is also now studying for a masters in philosophy - people cant just waltz into those programmes.
DeleteThe truth is she is a bright intelligent woman - she didn't pass the exams to get into one of the Grands Ecoles but she was considered intelligent to have a go.
People may or may not like Chanel but she has found a way to make it work for her. She represents a fashion house with which her family has had a longstanding relationship and they sponsor one of her interests.
As to being unaware of what is going on around her well no she can't truly understand it because it isn't her lived experience but she isn't completely unaware - she grew up with a mother deeply involved with children's support groups and charities and Charlotte is herself on the board of the FXB foundation which lots of amazing work for those less fortunate. She also went to a small public primary school in provincial France and mixed with ordinary people - there is absolutely no evidence to suggest a lack of humility other some photos where she has "resting bitch face".
And I totally disagree that she is pretentious - it's sad that people have to sneer because others are interested in more cerebral things.

Besides being a natural beauty, Charlotte is obviously very intelligent and very well read. I love the passion she has for books, one that I am afraid decreases with each generation. I think she would make a fantastic book editor. I can't say I am fond of the jacket. ~d
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when Chanel set standards, even back in the 90s when Claudia Schiffer was Lagerfeld's muse but now I rarely find anything that I feel excited about. That being said, Charlotte certainly has a knack for picking the best pieces of their collection (love that mulitcoloured blazer that would have escaped me otherwise because in those runway photos it was combined with so many other things that distracted from it) and combining them effortlessly so I can see why they chose her as a brand ambassor. And yes like a poster mentioned above, I wonder whether she wore this with a pair of trousers. As somebody mentioned above, I love her more natural make-up on this occasion. Excited for her book review and discussion rounds, yes sometimes it seems a bit out there but then I like to get challenged to read something out of my comfort zone. So overall, I think Charlotte is doing well in her role. -- S.
ReplyDeleteI wish there were English subtitles I would have loved to understand what she is saying . Mary I

The Chanel top doesn't look so great. I like the sunglasses. Don't know the authors; I like Jill Mansell, Kay Cottee, Catherine Cookson; female biographies are interesting. Tara
ReplyDeleteI do admit that I don't know much about fashion but what kind of jacket is this, when even such a beauty like Charlotte Casiraghi cannot make it look good!
