I like QMaxima's hats generally but there are times I think she doesn't consider whether her host can see her face, whether anyone can stand within speaking distance or be photographed...it just seems odd at times and this is one of those times. Also I dislike the way the hat fits her head - in that it doesnt - more that it landed there and she's too gracious to take it off

Is die hoed vast genaaid aan de pruik? Beetje lachwekkend.

  3. Hm! What to say, excess about almost everything, hat, transparency of the fabric. I am only fully positive about the hairstyle and earrings. Not sure how the finishing of the hemline is supposed to be.

  5. Wow! Love the dress, hair is perfection and although the hat is totally OTT, It is just wonderful. Hoping Queen Maxima can keep this up for any further events on this state visit.

Her dress is pretty but is totally overshadowed by the large, flowered, ostentatious hat....just no.

    1. It cannot possible be a birds nest. No self respecting bird would build something that off balance. However when it first made its appearance on the side of her head at the garter knight ceremony when King William was made a garter knight by Queen Elizabeth II it looked rather large but quite nice. For once that outfit with wide belt looked perfect. However this "meh" dress I did not like the first time around and like even less now.
It is a garden party dress and hat and not one you wear on a more business type of engagement.

The dress is very nice, her hair is marvelously done, the hat is not necessary to make the outfit complete and gets all the attention.

The dress is blergh and boring, the hat is at least exciting. Wearing something like this, she is just true to herself, being Máxima who keeps to surprise us. (-Ann.)

She wore this hat during the state visit to the UK. They were visiting Ascott by that time and a hat like this is appropriate for that occasion. But here meeting the very important and interesting German Chansellor Merkel this hat is really an insult. It blocks communication and sight.

    1. Given that people still have to wear masks, I think they are a much bigger barrier to communication than any hat!!

  16. What started fashion wise out so good on this visit, is now topped with this strange oversized creation on her otherwise impeccable coiffed hair.
I'm not a fan of transparent dresses for daytime wear either, too fussy.
I think we have seen this dress before, never really liked the colour, and it does not flatter Maximas figure like the one she wore on their arrival in Germany.

Loved this entire ensemble when worn to Ascot, including the hat which sat at a better angle than today, and with her hair worn down looked enchanting and fitted the occasion. However, I would have chosen something different for this state visit. Everything else she has worn so far has been cheerful and summery. I think of this neutral color palette as more suited to a cloudy day. Earrings are stunning. S.M.

Day occasion: dress semi sheer, hat over the top, shoes/stockings blech. A definite mess for me.... jj

Love it. Especially the hat - but then I'm English and love a good over the top bit of headgear.

  23. At someone of a similar age to Maxima I don't like to be ageist however, the over the top ensembles, accessories, hats etc. are not travelling well with the Queen as she ages. Adopting a more simple style would be far more flattering. Less is more as we age.

El vestido , zapatos y bolsos bien. El sombrero según lo vi pensé en un nido de pájaros. Demasiado exagerado.
