King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, Grand Duke Henri, Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Buedenbender, Swiss President Guy Parmelin and his wife Caroline Parmelin, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and his wife Doris Schmidauer got together at Bavarian House in Potsdam for the 18th German speaking countries' Presidents meeting.

Oh dear, Mathilde's dress is so bad I can't even start. And that side view of her is quite unfortunate. Someone please educate her on how to dress for her body shape. Still wearing the brace after her thumb injury, I see. ~Laurel~
ردحذفCompared to the cool elegance and style of the dela Renta frock, Mathilde's get-up looks like a country peasant costume. The horizontal coloured tiers and the rick-rack braiding between them does her no favours. At all. I'm wondering if she was going for some semblance of the colours of the German or Belgian flag seeing that German was the theme of the meeting? The accentuated bodice also seems out of place here - except in the context of a country costume, which the sash would also suggest.
ردحذفIn sharp contrast, Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein looks summer cool and 'sehr schick' in her dela Renta dress. I like both the ice blue colour and the lemon and leaf motif. It fits her perfectly too.

Agree with you Anon 8 13 Looking at Queen Mathilde's dress, I assumed it was some kind of national outfit and did not want to criticise. However, if it's not, it is truly one of the worst outfits I have ever seen her wear. There's nothing good about it at all and most unflattering for her body shape. Princess Sophie's dress is beautiful in every respect.
حذفPlease remember the difference of morphology between Mathilde and Princess Sophie of Lichstenstein !!! Impossible comparison ! Mathilde's dress was indeed a bad choice, but again the scope of flattering design for Mathilde is getting narrower. I would prefer a reuse of a flattering dress.

How about the sleeves and the V-neck as long as the foto was a portrait that stopped at the point of the V and did not go further down. There has to be something we can find to like. I actually like the orange and peach tones together but NOT with black or wric-wrac or on Queen Mathilde.

The skirt and the thing around the waist are a miss for me. I like the upper part from afar. When you look at it too closely, it becomes more of a miss also. The fabric of the dress is too wrinkly. I do not like the shoes. Not the best outfit I guess.

The lemon dress has potential but needs a lower neckline, a shorter hem and a darker complexion than Sophie can offer.

حذفI would wish the mask is just for show so I didn't had to put it on before going outside ! In Belgium we must still wear a mask when we are close to people in the streets, the shops, etc... When we take a walk in a parc for exemple where are only few people, we do not have to put it on.... It is not the same in every country you know.

Regarding MASKS the current rules are : wear masks when moving and distances are not respected, no mask when distances are fixed and respected. That is what sport organizations and others request right now!! Hundreds of contaminations for Finnish supporters who went to St Petersburg last week for football !!

حذفIn Germany, you must wear an FFP2 mask when close to other people in situations such as this one. And even if you don't like or believe in masks personally, the royals & other guests are doing the right thing, adhering to the rules of their host country. Could be that many of them are already vaccinated, but probably not all.
The Austrian president is 77 years old = high risk patient. The German president's wife has a kidney transplant = high risk patient.
Oh mais par curiosité, de quel couturier est la toilette de Mathilde ; du Nathan ? Est-ce une sorte d’orthèse qu'elle porte englobant son poignet et son pouce gauche, cela suite à un traumatisme ? Princess Sophie's dress is very elegant and fits perfectly. Queen Mathilde's dress on the other hand is just awful.

ردحذفThe bodice is too tight , looks like a puckering built in bra or something, and the zig zag trim on the skirt gives it a peasant vibe. The two different pink tones ...uuhh, not good. Red would have been better, but would look like a german/ belgian flag.
Otherwise Queen Mathilde looks phantastic, and I like her relaxed but tidy hairstyle.

ردحذفI really like this fun and flouncy dress on QM in summer colors, definitely a 50's vibe going on. The style is a departure for Mathilde, finally something other than a wild Armani print. The dangling belt-tie is an eyesore, I think it should be left off altogether, but otherwise she gets top marks from me.
ردحذفSophie's dress is wonderful, brown polka-dot dress also looks nice. Navy ankle slacks with short-sleeved fuchsia top seems a little too casual for the occasion.
As far as masks go, I cannot understand the criticism. Each country has its own protocol and is in a different stage with regards to infection rates and vaccination rates. Millions of people have died from this disease. If someone wears a mask when it's not prescribed as essential, I hardly see a reason to quibble with that. There's nothing wrong with setting an example. S.M.
Princess Sophie's dress is beautiful & elegant. Reminds me of Kate Middleton's LK Bennett blue poppy dress which has the floral pattern. Appears Oscar De La Renta may have knocked it off from L K Bennett. As for Queen Mathilde'z dress that is just awful looks frumpy & most unflattering. Mary I

I have some pieces myself and can assure they are lovely and classy.
Basically, it depends on what you choose and if that item suits
your body type and other features, which applies to all maisons.
Unfortunately, Mathilde chose so badly or was very ill advised (if she has any fashion assistants at all).
