Today is January 31 and Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands celebrates her 83rd birthday. Princess Beatrix was Queen of the Netherlands for 33 years, from 1980 to 2013. On 30 April 2013, she was succeeded by her eldest son, King Willem-Alexander. Princess Beatrix was married to Prince Claus of the Netherlands. They had three sons, Prince Willem-Alexander, Prince Friso and Prince Constantijn. After she abdicated the throne, she began to use three different titles: Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, the Princess of Orange-Nassau and the Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld.

I agree, her title of Princess does not suit the work she did all those years, and does not give her the respect she deserves.

If I remember it correctly the title is defined in law: "When the monarch abdicates she (or he) will use her (his) previous title."

That's a lovely photo of her. She has had such an interesting life - especially her childhood. I wish someone would do a movie or "bio-pic" about her life.

There is a Dutch mini series about her life, it's called "Beatrix: Oranje under vuur". There's also a version with English subtitles, it's "Crowns & Jewels" Season 2 (Season 1 is about her father). It's on Amazon Prime, though not available in all countries.
