This week, Queen Elizabeth made video calls to volunteers who had won Commonwealth Points of Light awards for outstanding work. On Sunday, photos from these calls made to three winners of the Commonwealth Points of Light Award were shared on the royal family’s Instagram account. Music teacher Nikoletta Polydorou from Cyprus established the Sistema Cyprus Symphony Orchestra to give free instruments and teach music to underprivileged children. Ruy Santos from Mozambique, who won the award four months ago, took the Queen on a virtual tour of his charity which included a soup kitchen that fed 6,000 people during the pandemic.

The Queen also spoke with Len Peters from Trinidad, a turtle conservationist whose work has transformed the country into one of the world’s densest leatherback sea turtle nesting sites. Len Peters won the award in February 2018 for saving the lives of more than 500 turtles over the past 30 years. The Commonwealth Points of Light Award was launched in February 2018.
