A new official portrait of Queen Margrethe of Denmark, taken in the Dome Hall at Fredensborg Castle by photographer Per Morten Abrahamsen in the summer of 2020 has been released by the Royal House on the occasion of the Queen's 80th birthday. In the portrait, The Queen is in formal wear with the Pearl Poiré Tiara. The Queen also wears a pair of earrings, necklace and a brooch. All these pieces appeared in many of Queen Margrethe’s official gala portraits taken in the past.
The Pearl Poiré Tiara highlights the maternal heritage of the Queen. The tiara was made in 1825 in Berlin. It was given by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia as a wedding gift to his daughter Princess Louise, who was marrying Prince Frederik of the Netherlands. It involves 18 drop (poiré) pearls dangling from a structure of diamond arches. The Queen celebrated her 80th birthday in April under precautions of the pandemic.

ردحذفShe looks so portrait perfect in her close up- her lipstick completely connects the red trim in her royal ribbons and the light blue, while blending her sash, is a softer look for her coloring. Just look at that velvet! She has managed warm and regal in her smile- just so lovely.
ردحذفThe only teeny tiny thing is the pearl drop in the necklace resting on or above the neckline- maybe they could have shortened it slightly or rested it more up and back. That and I just want to fix that train to lay more elegantly- mental remnants of being a maid of honor:).
Now here is my weird puzzle- at the bottom are those narrow pointy shoes the color of pearls or is that the two feet of some kind of stand??

ردحذفFrom Joann: For anonymous 11:50 p.m. I'm happy I'm not the only one who thinks something is off about the photo. True it is a lovely rendering of the Queen. But her face isn't quite natural-looking. I think the photo was touched up a bit. Also she looks a bit thinner - not much - but a little. When I saw it, it resembled the Queen, but not quite her.

Her teeth have been whitened and her wrinkles have been smoothed out. The photographer has taken a decade or more off of her face, and even more off of her teeth. You can see the difference if you compare this portrait to a closeup of her taken on July 24, "Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte opened the Royal Vegetable Garden at Graasten Castle". All professional photographers do post-production on their work. Honestly, her skin could just as good if she had had a facial just before the photoshoot, and her teeth could look that way if they were whitened, so it is not too far fetched. I think it is a beautiful portrait.
