Dagmar was the oldest in the Bernadotte family and was often invited to the Royal Palace. Dagmar's grandfather was Prince Oscar Bernadotte, Count of Wisborg, eldest brother of King Gustaf V. Dagmar is thereby a relative of the present king's father and was close to the whole royal family. Dagmar von Arbin grew up on Frötuna estate outside Uppsala and got married to Officer Nils-Magnus von Arbin in 1936. The couple had five daughters, namely, Marianne, Louise, Cathrine, Jeanette and Madeleine.
