King Wm Alexander looks very handsome with his beard. Queen Maxima, as always, is dressed beautifully and her personality makes her shine.

When we were kids, on hot days we would take off our school sweaters and tie them around our waist so we didn't have to carry them. That's what Maxima's skirt reminds me of.

A few more inches on Mathilde's skirt are all that are missing from a good outfit.

  4. Ladies look lovely but Mathilde’s awkward hemline length makes her lovely outfit look cheap. Maxima has trimmed down and she can pull off the unusual skirt. Beautiful color and fabric.

  5. Queen Mathilde looks lovely, however, the blouse is pulling at the seams and thus ditracts from an otherwise beautiful outfit. Just don't like the skirt Queen Maxima is wearing. Otherwise, she looks nice and I love the maroon accessories.

  10. This is a real Maxima-outfit! Bravo for that skirt, hat, gloves, smile... If only the hair... She let's look Mathilde a bit like the good housewife.

Queen Mathilde has beautiful and long legs, but this skirt makes them look even longer :) very lovely look.
Queen Maxima...interesting skirt, if a little wrinkly. With this hat her hair would have looked better in an updo.

  14. Two very different looks on the royal ladies; I love Maxima's shoes and blouse, but the rumpled and wrinkled skirt all but ruins her outfit. Mathilde looks wonderful except for the position of her hat, which throws thing off by being perched precariously on the side of her head. Take the hat away or place it differently, and you'd have perfection.

  15. Je préfère la tenue de la femme qui est à gauche de Maxima... Très mignon petit blouson aux jolis motifs !!!

  16. I like Maxima's blouse and shoes, but the huge hat, wrinkled skirt and red gloves are a big fail for me. She always seems to try too hard. Queen Mathilde is more subdued and more elegant in my opinion.

Lovely to see both Queen;s back at work. Mathile looks very lovely. Do like Maximas outfit the only thing I can do without is that bow thing around the hips.

  18. In my opinion, Queen Mathilde's dress is the perfect length to showcase her pretty legs. I do not think her dress is "mumsy" at all. The crisp white with the black waist and vertical skirt detail looks very youthful. Queen Maxima is, as always, striking. The tie at the waist seems a bit bulky to me but, otherwise, I like the skirt and blouse, and the maroon accessories are very attractive, although the gloves, which appear to be of leather, seem a bit much. Both kings look very handsome.

  19. I've missed Maxima. Great to see her back. Of the two outfits, Mathilde's is an easy winner for me--it's smart and not the least bit mumsy, in my view, though it would certainly benefit from being a couple of inches longer. I like Maxima's hat (which would look much better with her hair up), shoes, bag and gloves but the crushed skirt with the strange tie seems a very odd choice for this event. As for the King's beard, sorry to disagree with many of the comments above but I think it makes him look years older--nearer 60 than 50

Always nice to see the foursome together. It appears they enjoy each other’s company beyond their respective roles. I imagine the personalities are complementary and they all seem well spirited

I will start my thoughts with the gents. WA’s beard makes him look scruffy. I get the immediate thought of someone who is trying to hide some facial issues (but I am aware I am in minority; honesty the only royal who looks better with a beard is the Spanish king IMO, I don’t like at all the blonde, reddish facial hair). Philippe looks as nice as always.

Onto the queens. The winner hand-down (for me) is Mathilde. So elegant and not boring. Plus this is at least the third time I recall seeing her in this dress. Extra bonus for not mindlessly buying new clothes. The length is fine, she certainly looks appropriate and we’ve all seen many royals with shorter hemlines that have been borderline trashy). The top part is slightly tight, I agree. Overall, lovely outfit. Including the hat that complements well the dress.

I will first say that I really like Maxima and her personality, including her often unusual outfits. But this one is a total miss (for me). The skirt would only look good on a person with an absolutely flat stomach (and even then, other than perhaps being ‘trendy’ - whatever that means -it would have no merit: no particular tailoring, not an interesting colour....). Just looks like a messy ‘thing’ around her waist. The accessories are good (save the leather gloves) and the hat is clearly meant to be the feature of the outfit. Maxima wears these large hats very well and they suit her personality. An upside certainly could have improved the overall look. This one, still overall isn’t one of her best, but we’ve also seen worse. Had she dropped the leather gloves and picked a different skirt, this would qualify (in my books) as a stylish outing. As it is, much as I try to look for the positive, it doesn’t.

I am not fond of the new beard, nor of the over the top hat/makeup. The Queen's skirt is interesting. Queen Mathilde looks elegant, though her dress could have been a couple of inches longer and it might have looked better. Anne

  23. I generally hate to be negative, but the king's beard gives him a very unkempt look, no resemblace to King Felipe's sexy clean style, the picture featuring him and Máxima looks like a hair nightmare on both, and risking to be called frivolous, I have to say that a visit to the dentist to whiten his teeth ( maybe he smokes?) would give him a much needed appealing smile. I find Maxima's outfit a total failure, the skirt looks like a potato sack with a knot on top, the blouse is too classic for the skirt, the gloves need to go, and the hair must be arranged in an updo in order to show the hat. Love her shoes. Mathilde looks correct, the dress is definitely not my favorite, but next to Maxima's she looks like a sea of calm and dignified elegance.
