    1. Karen, I agree they look polished and well groomed.

  2. Well, that's different. I kind of like it. They're almost all the same height! I remember when those girls were born - how time flies. Nice to have a new photo of Willem-Alexander and his beautiful family.

    1. I don't believe they are the same height. Either the girls are standing on something (stairs?) to elevate their height or this is a photo-shopped and or composite shot.

    2. Its a composite shot. You can tell by the lighting and shadows in each individual. The lighting doesn't blend from one person to another.

    3. It is not any composite pic, but the smaller girls have something under they feet to make them more linear in height. There has been four lights and they are just normal, two soft boxes front, one back light and one highlight over their heads. Picture has been focused to Alexia, what makes king and Maxima so unsharp. No special photoshopping in my eyes, but of course those lightroom work ones done what are done to every pic anyhow.

Interesting pic actually, liked it at first sight but when seeing it more I do not like it so much anymore. Dark clothes make it look somehow too cold. Alexia´s facial expression is saying "you must be kidding!"

  3. How could they use this photo to send Xmas wishes ?! I like the dutch royal family but this is ridiculous !

    1. Agree,I don't like that picture, especially the girls look like wax figures.
I hope we will have a prettiest festive picture for the New Year!

    2. Agree.

  4. They look very nice, and the shot is interesting, but it doesn't seem right for a Christmas Card (just my opinion). So, I'll put in the Sussex's card's category - cool picture, but not the right shot for the Christmas card!

    1. I agree, same view as on Sussex's card, wrong choice.

  5. I adore this family! They are always smiling and they look so warm and happy.
That being said, I really dislike this picture, it looks so unnatural, the Dutch royals have had strange holiday pics in the last couple years.

  6. This looks like a badly photoshopped album cover.

  7. Nice picture but not for this season, so far the best xtmas picture goes to Victoria and family.

  8. Geertruida, LilyBart, Lana, Anonymous - I agree with all of you and then some. Not a Christmas card at all, they all look like they're facing the guillotine.

    2. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Coralie ! Will you be dancing on New Years Eve ???

    3. Thank you very much for asking, Anonymous 7:07, that is very kind of you! Yes, Hubby and me have booked an arrangement in a nice hotel. We will have a seven-course menu (in numbers: 7) and afterwards there is a big band playing in the banqueting hall. But I will only have to change clothes once, and that is after the dinner. For the dancing party I chose a dress with lycra, and I think I will need it, ha ha ha! The nice lady at the hotel says the big band plays every rhythm, including even Paso Doble. But I think the first dance after that meal will be a waltz - in my mother tongue, german, waltz sounds like "Walze", which is roller in english (those machines used in roadmaking, if you know what I mean) and I think that is exactly what I will feel like... What about you? Do you go dancing too?

    4. You can not start New Year without dancing . Don't eat too much you will look like whale on the dance floor! LOL

    5. Unknown, that is exactly why I chose the lycra-dress, I hope the fabric stretches enough... Merry Christmas and a happy New year!

  11. Oh, it was an unusual photo for a royal family. Very futuristic! Like something from star trek :)

  12. Why not imagining thei hearts go out to the suffering in the world while others have sumptuous Christmas dinners?

  13. What a nice picture.

  14. You know, if they were all smiling or appeared to be laughing at something, it might work but ... I don't know. It's like they've been lined up for a group passport photo or a witness lineup at the police station; "Okay, now everyone turn to the left. Do you recognize any of these people sir?"

    1. HAHAHA, that’s really hilarious!! Cannot stop laughing, thank you for this witty comment:-))) We can only speculate, of course, but my guess is that they took this pic for fun, after they took the other ones which were released already on various occasions over the year, the latest one being Catarina Amalia’s birthday(she is wearing the same dress) , so after the “duty” they thought “let’s have some fun - who are we going to be? Let’s take a cool pic and let the public guess who we are imitating. It’s going to be grand!”

  15. Very odd photo indeed, not sure why they would want to pose like that. It does look like a poster for a movie.

  16. They really seem to like these reality tv type photos recently.

  17. why would you use a photo taken in March for your New Year Greeting? Makes me wonder if they were not all together for the past 9 months.

  18. Actual royalty posing like the cast of a tv drama about a royal family is never a good idea.

  19. I love this family and I love the other pics from the family photo shoot, but this one.. no.. it just looks photoshopped and false.

  20. Why to use old photo and not only that but it is Christmas time happy time so why such a serious faces?

  21. As a Xmas card is totally awful. Best Christmas card so far is Monaco's.

  22. I really dislike these high fashion photos some royals are using. Looks too try-hard and artificial and not representative of the constituency. Just give the people a traditional picture!

  23. They look a bit like statues. Or perhaps they are posing for bronze likenesses. They are a beautiful family though.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, they look pretty. But the girls are still young children even though they might be teenagers now, and it looks like they used quite a lot of make up (and some photo shopping I guess). In my honest opinion, the make up is too much; I also see this at Kings day when the girls appear in public. It is not necessary because they already are beautiful and naturally pretty.
I'm sorry but I don't really like this setting.

  25. Very beautiful family. But too much make-up on the girls already!

  27. Belle photo,très futuriste.

  28. I think we should not try to analyse too much in detail. This is a typical "comm picture", let's keep from it that they look all in the same direction for 2019

  29. ek hou baie van die hulle. maar hierdie foto is u NEE...gelukkige Kersfees almal

  30. Lovely family, but the photo gives me scifi vibes. Best Christmas cards 2018: Monaco, Norway and Sweden.

  31. Warum sind die hübschen Damen so dunkel gekleidet ? Hier deutet gar nichts auf Weihnachtsgrüße hin , irgendwie traurig !!

  32. Such a lovely photo.

  33. I think it is a beautiful, modern photo, and possibly deliberately styled this way to indicate the forward thinking future of the Dutch monarchy. Who knows. In any event, a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all of them.

    1. Totally agree with you! They all look great! I especially like the makeup on the two older girls, pretty and enhancing without being overdone.

  35. It looks like the photo of The Dutch Royal family in Wax Museum.

  36. Interesting;hardly a family Christmas photo.I think they are trying to appeal to a monochrome world which does not exist.Forward thinking; well that is sad if that is what we have to look forward too. Considering the colours that Queen Maxima usually wears.Merry Christmas.

  37. Me ha asustado esta foto, parece llevan mascaras, no veo el significado visperas de navidad, y tampoco en otro periodo, el posado no corresponde a miembros de la realza mas bien a la gente people.
