  1. Oh dear. Actually I don't like either dress worn by Catherine nor Victoria. To qualify that, I have never ever liked dresses that have two types of sleeve treatment. It is just not my thing so that ruins Victoria's dress. With Catherine's dress she also is wearing something I never like and that is a dust ruffle! I know Erdem is the popular brand now with royal ladies, but this print just doesn't do it for me. I think it is the color mostly, but the floral print on this one just doesn't work either for me.

    1. I´m strongly with you - no dust ruffles in ladies´ fashion!

  2. Interesting, but maybe too much. Though I like Catherine taking fashion risks.

  3. Awful dress, probably the worse I have seen the duchess in.

    1. I do not like Catherine's dress either and was not surprised to see that the designer is Erdem. I am not in the Erdem fan club.

  5. Lovely Victoria! She looks gorgeous. I was looking forward to this dinner. Funny because in a previous post I commented that Catherine doesn't take any risks with her outfits these days. And here it is. She took the risk but somehow I don't like the dress. Maybe in a different colour it would work for me. I also wished for an updo so many times for Kate but this one is not flattering at all. A similar to Victoria's updo would look so much better on Catherine than this flat updo. It makes her look older than she is while Victoria's makes her look young and fresh. Anyway I'm still happy because we see a little bit different Catherine here and I like it.

  6. Oh, dear. I'm struggling for a positive comment on Catherine's gown. Perhaps she was trying to evoke the yellow and blue of the Swedish flag? Otherwise, it's just overwhelming and too much of everything to make any sense to me.

  7. I am usually a fan of Kate's style, but this is one ugly dress. The color is wrong for her and all the ruffles make it look like Granny's old nightgown. She doesn't look completely horrendous (her hair is lovely, the accessories are good, and she's tall and slim enough to carry all that moustardy fabric), but the dress is the worst I've ever seen her wear. I think she should give up on Erdem.

  8. Oh dear, no! Kate's dress looks like it was made from curtains and Victoria looks as if she lost the key to her closet and had to wrap herself in an old sheet or tablecloth.
    What were these two thinking?

    1. Heather, you make me lough with the "made from curtains"-sentence! But anyway I must say I like that dress and I love her appereance. Photo Nr. 4 - like a piece of art!

  9. I love both dresses!

  10. Terrible outfits on both ladies.
Kate´s outfit is just wrong in every way - colour, print, texture, silhouette, cut, styling, all just bad bad bad. There´s nothing I can think of to save the dress, it looks like upcycled from curtains or bed covers from an old musty 70s style hotel that got thrown out to finally allow for a complete make-over.
Victoria looks bad, too, but at least this has some theoretical potential. Lose those dark tights (and get better shoes), shorten the hem to knee-length, fix the fit a bit and it could be quite something. If it then was midnight blue instead of black, I´d like it quite a bit.

William doesn´t look his best here either. The only person who looks fab here is Daniel.

    1. Vanessa, I like your comments so much. This one made my day! For Victoria, yes, if she changes about everything of this dress, cut, colour, length, tights and shoes....maybe it could work! *Lol* And yes again, Kate's dress is some recycled curtain from the seventies....'hahaha'

But although the dress is a miss, I like Catherine's appearance here, she looks confident, improved posture and somehow grown-up. William seems almost young and insecure next to her. Motherhood brings out her best!

And yes again, Daniel is one of the best dressed royal gentlemen.

    3. Couldn't have said it better, those black tights with a formal dress is hard to see.

  11. wrong upon wrong upon wrong. Not pleased. Fashionable hopes dashed in one dinner! Oh I must laugh. The proportions on CP's dress with black tights and shoes!

  12. Well..... I have typically liked Catherine's Erdem choices but not today. The color is awful. I agree w Vanessa S that it looks like 1970 curtains. Just too busy and ugly color. She rarely wears yellow or gold and I think she should stay away from those colors going forward. It looks too heavy and shiny and hanging. I have many adjectives to go on but I will leave it at ....blech 😝

Victoria.... another failure. The upper half seems more grand which would require a longer length. It seems so formal up top and then it moves into this strange cut and stops at her shins. The hose and shoes? I do not understand this at all.

At least they both look bad versus one outshining the other.

    1. I like your last sentence. That is probably the best way of looking at it.

    2. I agree with everyone, 2 awful dresses. I also agree that one does not outshine the other. I wonder if they consult each other before hand to make sure they don't wear the same outfit?

  15. I was really looking forward to this trip to see what the Duchess would wear but so far I am not impressed. I wanted to see some pattern on her, but not this pattern. She always looks so matronly. What is it with the high neck all the time. These dresses are not worth the high prices that she pays. I don't like victoria's dress either. My favorite royal for style is still Queen Letizia. She outshines them all.

  16. It is obvious that the Duchess was wearing the Swedish colours. She always does that once when she visits a country. Unfortuneately their colours don't suit her and this has fallen flat. Hopefully she'll come back tomorrow. She looked lovely in everything else she wore today.

  17. What an ugly dress on Catherine!!!..... doesn't she have people arround her to tell her that she is not looking her best???

  18. Nein - no - nein für beide Damen, einfach häßlich.

  19. Up until now, I thought that DoC's style during this pregnancy was spot on. I don't understand these Erdem dresses and pussy bows favored by the royal women. On an ordinary human, with an average face and figure, they would look hideous. These royal ladies all look good only in spite of these types of clothes. I understand there is such a thing as haute couture and avant garde, but when did ugly become the new pretty? (That is simply my two cents. I think Catherine and Vicoria are beautiful women, both of them).

  20. The men look good, the women no so much. I don't see the colors of the Swedish flag in her outfit, the print and color is ugly. Victoria's black hose and shoes makes her look like Morticia. Hair bad for both, the earrings are pretty.

  21. Kate and Victoria are both beautiful women, but Victoria wins this evening. Erdem isn't a good choice, I don't like his fashion recently. Victoria - her dress is remarkable, courageous choice and I like it.

  22. What does it say when the guy in the kilt is the best dressed at the dinner ;)

  23. Même si Kate voulait rendre hommage en choisissant une robe Erdem, celle-ci elle est horrible. Pourquoi se ceinturer la taille quand on est enceinte, c'est laid !

  24. I would have expected that sort of dress on CP Mette-Marit, but not on the DoCa. It horribly reminds me of a 60/70's bed-cover. With that being said, I look at Victoria and can't get rid of the thought that she might be expecting as well. All the time she and Catherine look very knowingly at each other... plus some other hints, as well. Might this be the reason behind her "cold" just a few weeks ago when she had to cancel some appointments? Just my two cents...

  26. I like the silk dress of the Duchess. Early years of the late Princess Diana blouses also had the riffles at the neck. The Duchess accessories with the silk dress also from late Princess Diana. This silk dress is something different. But the latest photos of the Duchess 31 January are stunning. Once again the blue suit and pink coat of the CP Victoria a disaster. Beautiful photo of the Duchess and CP greeting each other with a kiss.

  28. I realy wonder whether the ladies here read fashion magazines sometimes, because the Erdem dress from Kate is high fashion at the moment including the pussy bows and high necklines and 70's style, so that is why the royal ladies choose these styles. Of course everybody has the right to not like it or find it old fashioned style of even not sexy. For myself i almost fainted when i saw Kates dress, i think it is so beautiful and yes, it is true that Kate is one of the few ladies who can wear such a dress because of her very slim figure.

  29. Yellow does not photograph well for me, that's all I know.

With the hair and dress, maybe she is going for posterity rather than trend or fad. She was an art history major.

Here, Crown Princess Victoria; then in Norway, Princess Martha-Louise - these Scandinavian women are telling us something about their genetics and metabolisms with these sleeveless dresses in winter. Victoria's dress is so 'think outside the box.'

  30. I don't like to be rude, but what were they thinking? Catherine's dress is horrid. I don't like Victoria's but it could have passed without those horrid shoes. Surely they have mirrors and staff!
