| Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko wave to well-wishers with Crown Prince Naruhito, Crown Princess Masako, Prince Akishino, Prince Kiko, Princess Mako and Princess Kako from the balcony of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on December 23, 2015. Thousands of people gathered at the palace to celebrate Emperor Akihito's 82nd birthday. (The Emperor's Birthday is a national holiday in the Japanese calendar celebrated on 23 December of each year. The date is determined by the reigning Emperor's birthdate. Emperor Akihito was born on 23 December 1933) |

This entire family is always so elegant.
ردحذفQuestion:Who is the heir of the Imperial throne after Prince Naruhito?
ردحذفHis Nephew or his daughter?
A good question! Or perhaps his brother? Like in Belgique after Baudoin?
حذفC
le neveu hélas !!!!
حذفI think it is his brother, Fumihito, Prince Akishino
حذفHeirs to the Chrysanthemum Throne are: 1. Naruhito 2. Fumihito aka Prince Akishino 3. Prince Hisahito
حذفAccording to the Japanise Imperial Tradition a girl would never be heir of the throne of Japan. So the daughter of Naruhito can't be the future Empress of Japan.
حذفハッピーバースデー、明仁天皇
ردحذفHis nephew.
ردحذفPrince Naruhito is the heir to his father, the emperor, with his nephew (the son of his younger brother) the next in line to the throne after Naruhito. In Japan a girl cannot inherit the throne, which I find strange as Japan has had some very strong empresses in the past.
ردحذفdommage que la fille du couple héritier ne soit pas présente !!!
ردحذفle neveu hélas a cause de leur lois ancestrales et qu'il faudrait moderniser !!!
ردحذفThank you all for your answers in my question!
ردحذفThis entire country is sick including this royal family. Girls can't inherit the thorn. Please just remember that all of the male was coming from their moms' tummies. So disgraceful of this country and family. :-(
ردحذفDon't the emperor and empress have a daughter as well?
ردحذفThe emperor and empress have a daughter who used to be a princess Norinomiya. She doesn't have her royal title anymore due to her marriage. Usually princesses will lose their princess title when they marry.
حذفShe is married and never belonged to loyal family since then.
حذفThey always look so classy, especially the empress.
ردحذفClassy if it is 1960...To me they just look repressed and retrograde.
حذفThey all seem like from different era, elegant to the most small detail with flawless manners.
ردحذف(I know you know but) Kiko is a princess of Akishino, not Prince.
ردحذفRevision of the Law of succession to allow females to succeed to the Japanese Imperial throne had been discussed after birth of Aiko, who is the only daughter of crown prince Naruhito and crown princess Masako, but since Hisahito was born, the discussion was shelved. Japanese princesses who were born to royal family are strongly encouraged to get married, and will lose title after their marriage, so Hisahito will be left behind alone in the royal family in the future.
New establishment of "Princessly house" has been discussed instead these days.
