Bangladesh visit of Countess Sophie of Wessex

Countess Sophie of Wessex, Global Ambassador of the International Association for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) currently visits Bangladesh. First, The Countess met with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, at Gana Bhaban, the Prime Minister’s official Residence. (The Countess wore an Ailie sleeveless silk-organza jacquard dress by Erdem)

Afterwards, The Countess visited the Ispahani Islamic Eye Institute and Hospital, supported by Orbis, and there, she visited the paediatric outpatient department where she met with children being treated.

The Countess then opened the hospital’s new ‘wet lab’ which is a training facility that enables ophthalmologists to practise techniques before performing surgery on patients

Afterwards, The Countess visited BRAC and met with its personnel. BRAC, an international development organisation based in Bangladesh, is the largest non-governmental development organisation in the world, in terms of number of employees as of September 2016.

  2. Seems odd for her to be in Bangladesh when the Queen and Phillip are celebrating their 70th anniversary today.

    I find it hard to believe any of them would be absent.

    1. The overseas trips are booked well in advance. It could be this was the best time for a visit for her hosts. There are a lot of logistics to consider.
