Farewell message from Japan Emperor Akihito

82 years old Japan emperor Akihito who rarely addresses to the public and is expected to leave the throne due to health problems gave his speech which is hotly-anticipated. Addressing to the people of Japan, Emperor Akihito stated that he is worried that his advancing age makes it difficult to do his duties fully. 08 August 2016.

The Emperor who was accepted as holy once a period in Japan is seen as the symbol of the unity of the state and the community by the constitution and does not have a political power. Akihito who had an heart operation last month was also diagnosed as prostate cancer.

In order for Akihito to abdicate the throne and for 56 years old Crown Prince Naruhito to take the place of him, it is needed to revise the domestic law of the empire. Before Akihito, Emperor Koukau had abdicated the throne in 1817 at his own request.
