I...I knew you were british when I red your comment. I appreciate your comment, but the point is simple: if so many important european royals attended the event, BRF should have sent someone from a higher position too. That's equality and respect.Lassiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04561636782992528657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-24655092755220223512017-05-11T19:15:07.133+01:002017-05-11T19:15:07.133+01:00Well, I don't know why Charles didn't atte...Well, I don't know why Charles didn't attend or what, if any, event he was due at. However, let me turn it round this way - suppose he's the Patron of a charity and he's attending something which is actually very difficult to arrange as he does have an extremely full diary. Mr and Mrs Ordinary (his future subjects) are very excited to meet him and maybe discuss the impact this charity has on their life - and he cancels because he's got to go to a birthday party of a bunch of royals your average Brit hasn't heard of (yes, I know that's nothing to be proud of). And again, Edward and Sophie are senior royals so I can't see the insult...

I do understand your point - it's not a complex one. I just disagree. I don't understand your definition of stuck up - it doesn't mean an inability to change, it means feeling superior and looking down on someone else. There is absolutely no proof that is why the BRF don't send the Queen or Charles, that's the perception of outsiders looking in.

A few years ago several of European senior royals - Queen Margrethe, Queen Beatrix, King Constantine - took part in a documentary where they discussed the Queen. They spoke very warmly of her and there is clearly a private relationship that we hear little about - I really don't think if they thought they were always being snubbed they would have spoken so highly. JMO.

I disagree that the BRF doesn't change - it's slow and still very "Victorian" in many ways but I've seen big changes in attitude and practices in the last 20 or so years.

Finally, I don't think disagreeing with someone's view on the BRF way of doing things demonstrates an inability to "think outside the box" - your point isn't original (I'm also not trying to insult you) so you're not exactly thinking outside the box yourself.

I'm British - was just trying to give the perspective of a longtime BRF observer, that's all. It is not unusual that their generation doesn't speak many languages. Seems to be a trend now. The need to converse in so many is not a requirement these days as in the past. I do think knowing a second language is good but Mandarin Chinese is HUGE these days and I doubt few speak Mandarin. I don't think we should judge them on a lack thereof ~

It is known that Sophie is close to the Queen and the Wessexes are the couple that represent the Queen for these events. But 80 yrs is huge. Would have thought Charles would attend. Especially since one of his godparents was Haakon VII the KING.
