The corps should file past the royals and be greeted by them, not the royals file past the corps. The only occasions that the royals should move along and greet stationery persons (be "received" by them) is when the royals are guests in another country or when the royals are touring their own country to meet their citizens.

This scene appears to be the royal family being received by a corps of hosts, which is quite incorrect, especially in diplomacy where protocol is important.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-18156001792546008392016-01-06T12:52:51.533+00:002016-01-06T12:52:51.533+00:00"Snow White" - well said, Anon 22:05!

The simplicity of the white gown, combined with a "half-down" hairstyle, has a "debutante" feel which I would usually associate with a junior princess. And there could hardly be a greater contrast between the minimalism of Mary's look and the lavish textures of the Queen's outfit.
However Mary's look is growing on me. It does showcase the necklace and the orders in a way that many busier frocks don't. And the white colour looks fresh in the line-up, next to the black and the blue of Frederick's and the Queen's outfits. My one wish would be for a pink/mauve coat or cape, rather than the grey one which to me looks too dull in that room full of brightly-coloured clothing.

A24-45https://www.blogger.com/profile/00852898436553570496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-90257267572157159042016-01-06T12:43:02.865+00:002016-01-06T12:43:02.865+00:00Mary looks wonderful and the pearls fantastic.Mary looks wonderful and the pearls fantastic.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-23034454367362989782016-01-06T12:24:01.779+00:002016-01-06T12:24:01.779+00:00There is a lot of differences with the dresses, Ma...There is a lot of differences with the dresses, Marie has no sleeves and it is in evening while Mary has sleeves and is in the morning, it was not the colour that made Marie's look unsuitable more the type of material.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-68443108873678297732016-01-06T12:19:35.585+00:002016-01-06T12:19:35.585+00:00In the United Kingdom a lady does not remove her g...In the United Kingdom a lady does not remove her glove/s to shake hands but a gentleman does and it has to be taken off finger by finger!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-34684444975227291612016-01-06T12:18:44.450+00:002016-01-06T12:18:44.450+00:00What they are doing is considered INCORRECT etique...What they are doing is considered INCORRECT etiquette. A lady (especially a royal lady) SHOULD wear gloves while shaking hands with anyone, as the glove is meant to protect her hand from perspiration and dirt. A gentleman may only shake a lady's gloved hand if he is wearing clean WHITE or KID dress gloves and formal attire - if he is wearing a different type of glove then he should remove them before shaking her gloved hand.

A man should never offer a gloved hand, even a white or kid glove, to a lady who is NOT wearing gloves - he should remove BOTH gloves before shaking her hand so that she doesn't have the unpleasant sensation of shaking a glove with her bare hand.

A person of either gender should remove BOTH gloves, and never walk around with only one glove on.

The scene pictured is thus incorrect etiquette in several respects (except for that of the CP, who is wearing both gloves and greeting a man who is also wearing both gloves).

I have many etiquette books from various periods including modern and several cultures, European and others, and they all agree regarding gloves and shaking hands.

The image of the Queen's bare hand in the gloved hand of the man immediately jumped out to me as perplexing, before I even saw these many comments about it. Perhaps this is another effort by the modern royals to seem "approachable" or informal? Which is hardly necessary and even strange in formal attire at a formal event.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-81334494739548105812016-01-06T12:15:59.551+00:002016-01-06T12:15:59.551+00:00Nope!
