There was a turning point, if you will, when the general consenses became "don't make what you're wearing the focal point of your appearance; you're there to promote/support ... [a particula charity or organization or good cause or to christen a ship or whatever]." So while they are following current trends in fashion - and lets face it, most people don't like "dressing up" or dressing formally - they also want to appear "economically and environmently aware." What I think you interperted me as saying "down to earth." So while sheath dress may be bespoke and made with some truly fine fabric it will be very simple. And while there is nothing wrong with simple I've seen in times past that sheath dress would have something extra special going on if nothing more than some pin-tucks in an unexpected place. In addition, the wearer would have on some amazing jewlery to go with; and I'm not talking huge garish bobbles but a nice gold necklace with some substance to it - like 4mm omega, some earrings with substance, even a bright scarf to add a pop of color! Remember the yellow sheath dress Megan wore a earlier in the year (or before she was even pregnant)? That was a very nice, simple but well tailored dress but in my opinion some more substantial jewlery, or scarf, or contrasting sweater would have really made it pop. But again, you [Megan} don't want to risk being too edgy or bold - taking attention away from the purpose of her appearance, etc. So they keep it simple, refine and there's nothing wrong with that except it's boring, imo. I've ranted enough. :-) I just hope at some point in the near future it will become okay for these fabulous ladies to really "dress!" for the day instead of just for state banquets and the like. :-)

EuropaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-77739042598567274142019-11-13T18:11:18.664+00:002019-11-13T18:11:18.664+00:00What the CP wore was appropriate for the conferenc...What the CP wore was appropriate for the conference. Those things are boring but I don´t think it´s a result of royals trying to be down-to-earth; they are boring because they are everywhere, they´re overdone and they never were good to start with. It´s a fashion dictate. The biggest skill in terms of dressing is not keeping up with trends; I think it is to dress right for your body type. And unfortunately even royals fall victim of the I´m-wearing-this-because-it´s-en-vogue-right-now-not-because-it-looks-good-on-me-trap.

I don´t even want extravagance or constant wow-factors. Just flattering, right-for-your-type outfits with a structured, well-tailored fit.
Vanessanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-25813123381822817492019-11-12T20:30:31.344+00:002019-11-12T20:30:31.344+00:00Indeed.Indeed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-5304653387771416252019-11-12T20:02:12.913+00:002019-11-12T20:02:12.913+00:00Unfortunately, I think its a sign of times. Ever ...Unfortunately, I think its a sign of times. Ever since the royals [in general] started dressing more austere in order to appear more in step with the average citizen, especially during really difficult economical times, no one wants to appear too flashy or extravagant. And heaven forbid if you decide to wear a couple pieces of really bold jewelry (I think Max is the only one that seems to get away with that). So, everything is very subtle and subdued, soft and elegant. No power suits or rich fabrics, etc. It’s one of the things I miss about the 90s; yeah there was big hair and shoulder pads, but there was also bold colors, daring designs, and big chucky jewelry with vibrant stones. Us fashion hounds and clothes horses couldn’t wait to see what fabulous treat the royal ladies had planned for us next. Even the shoes have gotten boring. The tight, partially-buttoned suit jacket on the gentleman standing directly next to her makes me cringe. The bottom of the tie peeking through is just such a sloppy look, and we see it more and more lately.Jane Chantalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03109164936623984794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065972902087062391.post-42064233428642857642019-11-12T18:38:27.052+00:002019-11-12T18:38:27.052+00:00Nice dress. It feels like she's trying to wear things that are too trendy and while she can pull off pretty much anything they don't have the wow factor that many of her prior outfits have. I confess I also just don't like these overly patterned dresses that don't have much structure even though CP Mary can pull them off and they still look flattering.
