Princess Ingrid Alexandra's sculpture park was completed

On the occasion of the completion of Princess Ingrid Alexandra's sculpture park, events were held at Oslo Royal Palace and the Palace Park. The schoolchildren who contributed to the completion of the sculpture park were invited to the celebration together with their parents and siblings. Queen Sonja and Princess Ingrid Alexandra were present at the events. Princess Ingrid Alexandra's sculpture park was opened on May 19, 2016 in the Palace Park. The most recent contributions came in the summer of 2019 and the sculpture park now contains twelve sculptures.

The Princess Ingrid Alexandra Sculpture Park was opened 19 May 2016 as part of the celebration of the King and Queen's 25th anniversary. The Royal Family was in attendance when His Majesty King Harald and The Princess declared the park opened. 1 000 children from local kindergartens were also invited to the opening, as this is a sculpture park by - and for - children. Today the sculpture park consists of 12 sculptures - a result of a nationwide competition among 5th and 6th graders.

Ingrid Alexandra is a lovely natural young lady . She seems to enjoy her grandmother company doing duties with a smile and feeling relaxed .

  3. Aside from the unfortunate first two pictures, these are delightful looks at the ever-stylish queen in her autumn colors. She has a wonderfully-colored cape and that scarf is outstanding. Her choice of jewelry, gloves and hairdo are perfect. Ingrid Alexandra is moving capably into her adult duties and looking neat and pretty in her teen-ager outfits. I'm glad she doesn't show up in ripped jeans and weird tops. That skirt style, though, adds pounds to anybody.

    1. I agree! I just hope that she will listen to her grandma and learn how to combine fashion with elegance.

  7. I love Ingrid´s coat. The knit top and especially the skirt though were not a great choice, and the white trainers are just wrong. There are so many sporty, teenager-appropriate shoes she could have worn with this. Canvas sneakers aren´t that universal.
    Sonja looks wonderful.
I don´t have a sense for sculptures, and these here look rather silly to me. I don´t think they are a good addition to the palace grounds in any case. Maybe in a corner of Vigeland park instead.

Trainers are hot and top fashion to outfits like this. Thought people who commented on a fashion blog knew that ;) And this is a sculpure park made of children for children with sculpture they can play in. Sometimes we should do a little google search before we criticize...and do we really have to criticize what children wear? What does that say about us as grown up. Ingrid looks smashing. Nothing wrong with her outfit. The strange is Cathrine Hammel herself have paired this sweater and this skirt together, but guess Venessa knows best ;)

    2. Why do you feel the need to insult me? I´m sharing my opinion here, just like everybody else. I said that white canvas sneakers were the wrong choice of footwear to go with a tulle skirt and a navy wool winter coat. I don´t think I´m alone with this opinion; in fact I know that I´m not because a previous occasion to which Ingrid wore those sneakers for an official photo call, prompted lots of criticism by the public. You can of course follow fashion trends, that´s fine, but I prefer to be guided by what looks right to my eyes rather than what fashion labels dictate.

Regarding commenting on children´s clothing - You´re just as "guilty" of that as I am. And, with all respect, you questioning my morals as a grown-up doesn´t go well together with your slandering tone towards me in every other of your sentences.

As for the sculpture park - I know that children made them, but that doesn´t mean that I like the idea of a sculpture park at the palace grounds. If these sculptures were at an actual playground, they would make a lot more sense. In the context of the palace grounds, I find them kitschy.

    3. Anonymous at 8:53, we all know that it's the current "hot" trend to wear trainers with skirts and dresses; that does not have to mean that it's an attractive look. We are allowed to express an opinion.

Ingrid Alexandra is a beautiful girl with plenty of time to experiment and find her fashion groove.

Vanessa, it's totally fine that you don't like the sculpture park, but what you don't know is that palace grounds is a big playground for plenty of kindergartens in Oslo and open to the public. The park is also the main pathway between one part of the city to downtown Oslo, so children can enjoy the park whenever they're crossing through. You should also keep in mind that the palace grounds is quite large and that the sculpture park is located in a small area on one side. The rest of the palace park is just a normal palace park. Nothing to worry about.

    6. Thanks for your reply, anon. 8:10, but I know exactly what that park looks like, in fact, I have walked through that rainbow myself.
I don´t have a sense for sculptures, as I said above, so maybe I´m not arty enough to appreciate these. It´s the Ingrid Alexandra sculpture park - which to me sounds like a permanent installation. I find these very modern sculptures rather jarring next to the stately palace, the traditional guards etc. and I wouldn´t have put them there. I know that art folks like to play with jarring contrasts, mix old and new, make provocative experiments etc. whereas I prefer when styles are kept pure. So putting these very modern sculptures next to a neo-classical palace complete with a 1800s landscaped garden kind of spoils the atmosphere of the place. Oslo has a huge sculpture park already, and I think these sculptures had made more sense there. That´s all. If they enrich the daily lives of people in Oslo, then I´m happy for them.

The sculptures are based upon drawings made by 5/6th graders and are supposed to appeal to children.

The Queen looks great. Pss Ingrid Alexandra is growing into her role fine. Don't like all of these sculptures, than again I don't have to like it. The children should and will have fun there.

I thought we had a royal fashion site here. But for some (won’t call out names, you know who you are) it seems to be the vehicle for debate on the causes the royals support. I hope this can stop. If you feel strongly about debating their causes, please setup a separate site and have a go at it. Also, make sure you are well informed and balanced when you start criticizing. In particular as I believe none of us can be well informed about all the countries that are monarchies.

Back to fashion, the queen is always dignified in her choices and appropriate looking. With a touch of ‘something interesting’, like the colour of her coat here. Lovely lady indeed.

Her granddaughter is at that age when she’s still searching for her personal style - trends are always something teens pay attention to. This one is a partial win..

Why shouldn´t people react to information given in these posts? The causes are often the reason why royals turn up in the first place, it is what makes them relevant.

Perhaps because it’s a fashion blog? Or did some of us get that wrong?
