I ask myself that also, surly with every designer at their finger tips they could dress the kids more modern. George is dressed like a baby. they should really go look at how the Monaco / Sweden and Denmark children dress

Let's hope that they find another dress style for Charlotte sometime soon (preferable this year...); whilst cute, I can bet she will be resentful when growing up to see she was dressed like a doll (and not a little girl) for such a long time. It worked at 9 months, maybe even when she was 1 or 2 years old, but now it seems rather odd. There isn't any royal rule for Kate to observe here, both British and other European royals have dressed their off-springs like normal children. keeping fingers crossed Kate will "grow up" in this regard (maybe a first step would be to find a different style hair bow... :).

    8. The traditional outfits are enchanting. I certainly hope their parents never give in to trends while their children are children. As Charlotte and George age, they will start picking out their own clothes. Lady Louise is now evolving this way.

The well dressed royal child always wears smocked dresses, peter pan collars, ankle socks and shoes with buckles. A look at the archives will show William and Harry, Charles and his brothers, and in addition a look at the 3 continental Leonores and Estelle at that age will show the same thing. The children look age appropriate and cute. You will also notice that the little girls always wear similar hair bows or headbands. Please, a little research cures a lot of uninformed statements.

And what if they just don't want their children to be all too interesting for the press because of their clothing? Their clothes are simply boring for tabloids and kids' fashion blogs, nothing new to prey upon ("how to dress your child like a Princess") so they let them in peace. Very good so. And I am sure they do have other clothes - but not for being photographed.

  5. I think drab olive green is an unusual color to wear to a Christening, but I do love Ralph Lauren clothes and the dress Meghan wore is Ralph Lauren. It would have been nice in a different color though. I love Catherine's headband/hat! Would like to see the rest of her dress. I would imagine it is Alexander McQueen. Catherine always wears a shade of white for christening of her babies. More pics on Daily Mail of Pippa's dress (which I like) and Mrs. Middleton's dress (which I also like).

Your point that Catherine always wears a shade of white for the children's christenings had me wondering why Camilla would wear the same color. I think most expected to see Catherine in that color. Regarding Meghan, I loved her dress! The color doesn't bother me at all. It may seem unusual due to the time of year, but olive has become a neutral (at least for some). I also liked Pippa's dress. It is not easy to dress that early in a pregnancy.

Catherine looks lovely--very much in the same style as her other Christening outfits. I also like Pippa Matthews' soft blue dress--the detailing is very smart but does not detract from the soft flow.

The pictures do not show other guests except for Pippa. ASome of these ladies chose outfits accentuating their breasts and it looks as if not wearing a bra. Carole Middleton - who usually dresses elegantly - has now clearly made a wrong choice: she seems plump (which she is not!) in that type of design. The colours though are all very nice, also Meghan's spectacular choice.

I love the fact that she knows what's the style she wants to follow, she is not a model in the runway to be wearing something "new" in such events. That's exactly what being traditional and aristocratic means not following trends in each event

You need to consider the fact that white is the color for christenings and other sacraments. Kate is probably honoring this in her choice of color. She has made very deliberate choices in her clothes in the past (designers, colors, fabric patterns) to honor host countries for example. I don't see this as a negative at all. I think it is a lovely sentiment.

      Delete
    6. Is it aristocratic to be boring? It's the same designer! Look at other royals, Madeleine, Sofia.. Is it written somewhere you have to wear same colour and same designer? I don't think so. Hopefully Meghan will cheer up royal fashion..

      Delete
  23. Anonymous9/7/18 22:47

nothing unexpected on Kate, even if the headband is different, I would have bet any money she will wear white (or almost white) McQueen. It's getting slightly boring - headband or not. doesn't need to be (again, IMO).

My favourite is Pippa. She looked best, with Camilla a close second. Pippa's choices lately have been quite admirable, she seems to have gotten beyond her previous "look at me" stage, when she was wearing off the shoulder dresses (see last year at Wimbledon). I thank she matured and found her own "look", that doesn't need to align 100% to her mother's or her sister's.

And Camilla looks good in white. This simple dress in particular works well on her body.

I am slightly disappointed by Carole, I was looking forward to see her outfit and despite it being over 1,200 pounds - it's surprisingly unflattering (usually she knows what works well for her body). Plus, she needs to move on from this aqua green and (even more so) those dark tights. On a hot summer day like today?

Megan has gotten the silhouette right, but the shade, while neutral (potentially not to distract from the key players) is not flattering at any time of the year - never mind on a bright summer day (and whilst some may say it works with her complexion, I would say it ages her quite a bit). The hat, outfit - both are quite nice, pretty much in any other colour in fact (ok, maybe except brown). Too bad.

Without Her Majesty, this felt somehow lacking the importance that one would expect from the christening of a royal offspring that is in direct line. I know her calendar is very busy - but she coordinates so many other events - could this not been postponed a week or so until she became available? I understand she didn't attend Isla Phillips' christening - but Peter, unlike William, isn't in direct line to the throne... I suppose it gave Charles and Camilla an opportunity to lead a significant family event. The rumors are that she did this on purpose, so I will assume it's not because the queen felt it less important than the hundreds of other engagements she has every year.

  24. Well I hate to burst some bubbles here but sage green and military green are HOT fashion colors right now and are actually considered a neutral right now for Spring and Summer.

She looks fabulous! Love it! Not military at all!

    1. Great info., Diane! Thanks! I also see a soft moss or sage green color here. Military olive drab has a more brownish tone.

      Delete
    2. I see that totally different. It is absolutely not important for a member of the BRF to wear hot fashion colours.
England is going through difficult times. The BRF embodies long-time values, tradition and stability, not short-time attention due to hot fashion. Especially not on an event like the christening of a child.

      Delete
    3. Coralie I did not say anything about that ?? People are saying it is a Fall color and I just added that it is the HOT color for Spring and Summer this year. Meaning it is not so fallish now.

I certainly do not see where or how you took my comment to "hard times" and "short time attention"?

I think you are over reaching here. My comment had nothing to do with any of that and I doubt Meghan was going for a "short time attention" grabbing.

I don’t think anyone should ever dress based strictly on ‘hot’ trends. And in particular colour-wise. If it’s not flattering, who cares if it’s trendy? Still not going to make you look good.

And if we’re in the topic, khaki may be ‘in’ - but it’s primarily for casual outfits, not occasion wear, in particular royal christenings. She can (and mostly is) on trend, but no need to make trendy the rational for choosing a colour that makes you look older and just simply doesn’t suit you.

The olive green colour suits her well and dresses in khaki/jungle prints have always been summer staples so don't think the colour is at all inappropriate. Charlotte and George look great. Princess Estelle wore similar liberty style outfits at this age. George still has a timid air about him while Charlotte looks as if she's been told to be on her very best behaviour and is behaving with unusual decorum! Sad that the Queen wasn't there. It is a shame that the christening wasn't televised like the christening of the young Swedish princess, that was so beautiful. How come it took them so long to have the young Prince christened;it is not like they didn't have a name for him;also they weren't waiting for Her Majesty to attend. The outfits look dull and boring;even her Majesty wears bright floral outfits,it's summer.Something isn't right, have a look on the faces of Prince Harry AND Prince William. The children's clothes is straight of a 1960's brochure. I'm surprised the uniformed nanny isn't there. The godparents are interesting;Guy Pelly man about town;it was the Van Cutsem's that were not supportive of Prince Diana;in Prince Charles's camp as they say;when she was having a difficult time. How did Princess Diana make everything look fun;and happy. Also Camilla should not be Queen as she is not the Mother of the Heir to the throne.

The children's clothes are typical of the type of clothes the royal children wear to this type of event - and look fine to me - conservative not trendy.

The Godparents are longstanding friends and relatives. I can't see that it matters what "camp" the parents of the chosen godfather were in - Diana wasn't William's only parent.

Nothing to compare that always poorly behaving Leonore, whose parents don´t seem to care at all of the girl or her behave. That is true that these kids of Catherine and William behave also well.

    3. Blondini, some people make righteous comments, full of of judgement, about people that they don't know, with very little information about their roles, and duties. At the end of the day is just a reflection of their souls. SMH!!

    4. There was comment where the br royal must turn to the swedish norwegians on how dress their children. Look for that comment and attack that. Stop sttacking me whwn i write a comment

    5. Anna-Marie, that is so easy tick to you to avoid, stop attacking Victoria´s person. Actually I do not understand why such comments you continuously make about her are permitted here. They are just mean, nasty and fictitious.

I should "attack" ages old thread, why on earth? I have no problem knowing British and Scandinavian children wear different style clothes.

  37. lovely choice for Meghan as green represents growth and new begginings, also a sense of safety, a nice choice to attend a child's blessing into new beggining of his life.

as for everybody else's business as usual for the BRF firm and Co (by this I mean the Middletons).

wonder why the monarch did not manage to attend.

Meghan looks very stylish, lovely colour for her. Camilla's outfit is chic as well. I kind of like Catherines headpiece. Everybody looks very happy.

  40. I'm so very tired of the women bashing and style picking. Just let them enjoy the love they share for the beautiful baby Louis on his christening day. They have allowed us into their world, but not to pick on every move they make or the clothes they wore. It would be nice to just congratulate them on Louis day and not the superficial clap trap.

    1. This is a fashion blog, we are meant to comment their clothes. If that is not OK to you, you should be more happy in other sites really.

    2. Agree Blondini - I honestly don't understand why that's a problem.

  41. I remember the dress the Duchess of Cambridge had been wearing for her sisters wedding and that it looked very retro, very Forties. The same applies to almost every dress shown in above pictures, except the Duchess of Sussex' and the Duchess of Cornwall's. Very much WW II feeling to the Middleton dresses and some of the female Godparents, they even give the feeling of those former austere times, though they might have been expensive in buying most recently. I quite like the Tudor-esque headpiece of Catherine, however, I think it a bit too high in the middle part.

  44. The green dress is not right at all on this occation.Meghan is looking nice, but if you all take a good look what the other is wearing you may see that it is not so much sticking out colour....beside a woman who is wearing red!!!Many ladies has just a thing about making the spotslight on them.I think Meghan is one of them.

    1. Mina I think the the word is, " individual" and IMO Meghan is an increĆbly stylish woman that doesn't need to blend with every other person, her clothes are correct and appropriate, some people just take the spotlight because is an innate quality. Obviously, we all have different taste and sense of style, but making statements about her character, just because she doesn't dress the way you would like, it's just judgmental and actually very shallow.

    2. I think that is what some english people mean when they call her "Media Markle" or "MeAgain Markle".
But probably she does not do it on purpose. She is still learning, isn't she?

When did a color be right or wrong for an occasion? Meghan looks absolutely fabulously. The green is fab. The dress is fab og her hat is fab. So give her a break! Stop this hate. She is not stealing the thunder from anyone. Then she would have had on a skinny little dress, showing a lot of skin in a crazy color. Here she is in a conservative, classic dress in a moderate color.

    4. Another comment that is stirring the hate pot. Not sure how a color just screams look at me. If it was hot pink or red or orange it would be too much. But even then I do not see Meghan trying to grab the spolight. Every time we see her she is careful not to jump ahead or push ppl away. She waits and then moves. She asks for guidance. I have seen it time again. She is 36 and confident not 21 and immature. If you don't care for her then why are you here?

Meghan is the winner. Perfect dress, perfect hat and the color of the dress i smashing. Kate looks good, but bad hat/hairband thing...

  46. Tired! That explains the expression on Charlotte. Catherine's headpiece is unique and I like it more than some of those fascinators, except the burlap texture. At first I didn't like the color of William's tie, but the UK is also celebrating the 100 anniversary of the RAF, so perhaps there is a tie-in there. I saw William's and Harry's expressions. Perhaps they are missing Diana, perhaps they are worried about their aging grandparents, perhaps they are tired from a newborn baby that doesn't sleep around the clock. How close is Harry's apartment to William's at Kensington Palace? Too many family dynamics for the viewer to know for sure about any subtleties the camera captures.

  47. Catherine looks radiant! I wish we could see more of her dress. I am not a fan of her headband, it looks too bulky. Meghan looks stunning, a very elegant ensemble.

  48. Returning to this post, I am surprised at the strange attacks on royal children and parenting styles. The comment on George & Charlotte's outfits wasn't unreasonable, although I disagreed with it. Looking at Estelle at her mother's birthday celebrations tonight, she appears to be wearing a similar style to Charlotte. Estelle has always appeared super cute and well behaved as is her funny serious little brother. Leonora is not as well behaved but she is not in the same public position. She's only little so attacking her parents for her behaviour seems a bit strong.
