  1. Charles' coat looks like it came out of a Goodwill store. He's not putting his money where his clothes are!

    1. You can get some good looking clothes at a Goodwill. Goodwill may not sell new clothes, but the clothes you get still look good.

    2. I'm not arguing that, have frequented similar stores a lot and gotten real nice coats, shoes, boots etc. I was just saying Charles' coat doesn't look nice. No offence meant to Goodwill stores.

    3. Oh Lizzie funny you should say that! I was looking at first photo and thinking Charles needs to get himself a new tailor. Such an ilfitting coat!!

    4. I think I read somewhere a year or two ago that this coat is about 20 years. Ergo how shabby it is looking. A good cashmere coat can last for years but like all things it begins to lose its 'look'. Time to retire the coat Charles.

    5. it's a coat he bought while married to Diana. He may keep it for sentimental reasons.

    6. Unknown, that is a very romantic explanation. But I think Charles was not very sentimental with Diana.

  3. Silly hats, except for Princess Anne. And in particular, whatever is Louise wearing on her head?
Also in photos elsewhere her hemline is extremely short.
    Sophie's dress is very elegant.

  4. Loved Sophie's dress. The color and texture were beautiful.

  5. What an ill fitting coat Charles wears and what an ugly color. His 95 father carries his off better.

I don't get the discrepancy between Sophie's elegant appearance and the odd look of her daughter. Why does she not want to dress this girl better? In British magazines you could see, Louise's dress and coat were much too short, childish ballerinas on her feet in winter and then this stupid black fascinator on her head.

Let's ban all fascinators anyway. They look ridiculous! Princess Anne may not be a fashion icon, but at least she wear's a hat!

    1. Actually all others but Lady Louise are wearing a hat. Hat needs to have base over 10 cm2 and all those head pieces have it. If the base is less than that 10 cm2 it is fascinator. Hat does not need to be a big pot at the head. These fansy ones are called coctail hats.

    1. +1. I actually think Eugenie looks the most elegant of all of them. The red hat goes perfectly with her blue eyes and her porcelain white skin. And the red lipstick is very chic.
Sophie looks great but I sense her hat is too over the top for the occasion. And I never get when she seems to wear way less or less warm clothes than others. Doesn't she need a coat when everyone else in the family wears wool and cashmere pieces? I'm not sure but maybe it was this year's remembrance sunday when she wore a suit on the balcony while Kate and all the others wore thick wool coats. It's a mystery to me.
I too have a growing strange feeling about Lady Louise and her childish clothes now. And I'm a very conservative person if it comes to clothing, especially children's clothing - for example I cannot approve of girls as young as 11 wearing all those provocative adult's clothes, practically non existing miniskirts and crop tops with decolletages as deep as the Mariana Trench. But Lady Louise... She wears the clothes of a 6-8 years old and how old is she, like 13? Ok I get the she's not yet "hat-aged", but this fascinator is a silly choice for sure. Is it one of Sophie's pieces maybe? A plain velvet Alice band might have done the trick I guess. And she's certainly old enough for a simple blow dry to get her hair a bit more organized. Or at least a neat ponytail. I agree the ballet flats are a hideous choice too. Doesn't she get cold? Why not wear a pair of plain but nice flat boots?
All due respect for the Countess of Wessex for every merit she has and I don't want to offend anyone but honestly I think Sophie just doesn't really give a **** about how her daughter looks at these events.

    2. Also, ZL, in photos elsewhere Sophie's son is in a skimpy suit (looks too small) without a coat. The children aren't on display very often so when they are they should be appropriately dressed for their age and for the weather. How hard could that be?

    3. Yes, and saw in the pictures on Sophie's site that this happened again: all men are in coats only Sophie's boy is in summery thin blazer and ill-fiting trousers - without a coat. I honestly don't understand that.

    4. I went to the website to see what you mentioned about Viscount James suit. Now this is totally ridiculous. Too big, too thin, material looks cheap, no coat. You could see that he was cold. Who would dress his children like this for Christmas? Both parents obviously don't care, which I find very strange.

Sophie herself does not wear a coat, so she can flaunt her red dress. Her choice of hat which would be more suitable for Ascot than for Christmas Service signals clearly that she took the occasion for her own fashion show. She loves the limelight and she loves to be in first row. That is why she accompagnied Prince Philipp. Since the Queen was ill I would have loved to see his daughter Princess Anne at his side.
Sophie would have belonged at the side of her husband and her children.

  7. Sophie looks wonderful and I actually like Eugenie's hat, very elegant.

  8. Beth, absolutely agree with you.

  9. Did Princess Margaret's children not go to Sandringham this year?

  10. Beth it is not unusual for Sophie to ride with the Queen or Phillip. She seems to be the person who is chosen. She has a very close relationship with both of them. Very close. Perhaps closer than the Queens own children. I suspect Anne walked because this is the first time her own grandchildren attended services and what Grandmother doesn't want to show off those children
Anne is beaming holding her granddaughters hand. I think it is not a case of Sophie wanting to be front and center. Sophie is not a vain or showy person. That is why she is a favorite.

As to the clothes of the children? I have wondered for a long time why they dress so shabbily and why Louise is dressed like a 9 yr old. She looked quite 'off' here. Silly fascinator, frizzy hair, ballet shoes, dress and coat much too short. Frightful. Maybe Lousie likes this look. I think she may be a shy girl. But as a Mother I would have a Mom- daughter day and do a make over. James is a cute boy. Too bad he is dressed so oddly.

  11. @ Diane, yes, you're probably right, Louise may be a rather shy young lady, but this is why my Motherheart thinks, she could need a little gentle support.
But anyway, I don't know any of these people, I comment only on the pictures, what we see or believe to see can be right or wrong.

As for Sophie, I have heard of the praises that she is a hard working member of the royal family and liked very much by the Queen and Prince Philipp. I can't seem to warm up with her. But then again, this is just the internet and not real life.

A very Happy New Year to you Diane, love following your posts, and to everyone.
